Palace get off the mark with home victory

Crystal Palace secured their first home win of the season after a 1-0 victory over 10-man Aston Villa.

Palace eventually broke down a resilient Villa who had Trezeguet sent off for a second booking in the 54th minute.

Roy Hodgson's side dominated throughout with 22 shots on goal and 13 corners but lacked a cutting edge.

Former Villa striker Jordan Ayew got the only goal of the game in the 73rd minute. The Ghana international raced on to Jeffrey Schlupp's through ball and wormed his way beyond Tyrone Mings and Jack Grealish before firing into the far corner.

Villa were furious to be denied a Henri Lansbury 'goal' six minutes into stoppage time after referee Kevin Friend decided that Jack Grealish dived in the build-up.

Palace move up to fourth in the early Premier League table after claiming a back-to-back victory.

Palace: Guaita, Ward, Cahill, Kelly (Sakho 79), Van Aanholt, Schlupp (Townsend 84), McArthur, Milivojevic, Kouyate, Zaha, Ayew (Benteke 86).

Not used: Hennessey, McCarthy, Camarasa, Meyer.

Villa: Heaton, Taylor, Mings, Engels, Guilbert, Luiz (Hourihaane 71), Trezeguet, Grealish, McGinn, Jota (Davis 59), Wesley (Lansbury 85).

Not used: Steer, Ngoyo, Elmohamady, El Ghazi.
