I see Stormont and Holyrood voted the 'deal' down.

It is looking more and more likely that the UK will break up.

Not over brexit alone, but over covid.

It is obvious to them that they are best at managing themselves, free from Johnson's old etonian clowns disastrous performance.

From abroad, the UK looks like 'plague island' veering from one disaster to another.

Your best out of it then mate, don’t forget your coat on the way out.

Seriously, if the UK breaks up the only ones benefitting would be England.

You are so out of touch. In case you hadn't noticed this is 2020 and not 1939.

A valid point. But 1939 happened. As did 1914. And before that 1871. The Death Camps were real. The election of Hitler was real.

Of course we should not get bogged down in history but let us not forget it either. Germany remains the most powerful economic force in Europe. It controls the currency, and therefore the economic well-being, of hundreds of millions of others and it does not always act in the best interest of those people.

I genuinely question the wisdom of centring so much power in the hands of a nation that has done more to destabilise the rest of Europe than any other over the course of the last 150 years and has slaughtered millions just for the accident of birth.

I am sure the Germans of 1914 and 1939 were as cultured and polite around a dinner table as anybody else. Probably more so in many ways. I don't consider myself as 'anti' German and have always enjoyed my visits there along with numbering a few of them amongst my friends. But collectively, I am wary. Always willing to put my hands up.

History, geography and to a certain extent, linguists, are all reasons for keeping a wary eye on the Germans and Germany. Now people may mock me for the last part and ask how I can have a prejudice against a language but I am convinced that it plays far more of a part in defining how people act collectively. The notion of a 'final solution' has a certain logic only in a language like German. No nuance, just what you see is what you get.

"The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command." - 1984 - George Orwell.

William Joice was an American born fascist who became a German. He hated the UK back in WW2 but would have hated it even more now, as it has progressed to becoming a modern social democracy. He would have hated modern Germany too, although I suspect he may well have admired Trump.

His spirit certainly survives. It can be found today in many places, including the far-right in the USA and indeed also in small dark corners here in the UK.

Joyce's lineage was Irish and English and hence his genetics were from the British isles. His parents were unionists and anti Irish nationalism.

He spent his early adult life working for British intelligence against the IRA and continued into the British union of fascists. His conversion to working against Britain wasn't until the war.

This is why he was hung as a traitor to the British state, he used the same defence of claiming he wasn't British as you did here.....pathetic.

To cut a long story short, he ended up 'hating' the patriots who fought for this country. They 'hated' him in turn.

When I compare him to someone like you it's purely upon that last paragraph.

My spirit is in social conservatism and with Powell.

Yours is...no doubt, an embarrassment to your ancestry.

If the Scots and NI think they will be better off without us, fine. They won’t be in the EU and they won’t be in the UK, good luck with that! Oh and of course, they won’t be wanting any free handouts from us dastardly English will they! Do the Scots now get more per head from Central Government than anyone else? Still they will have Krankie at the helm, what could possibly go wrong.
Presumably if we are seen as “ plague island” those EU nationals rushing here over the last few days, to get their entitlement must have made a very grave error

Under the Barnett formula NI gets the most per capita, then Scotland, then Wales.

Apologies,

Scotland gets the most, but with a larger population not on per head basis.

Freedom and independence is not just a financial equation neither is the european union.

Who, in their right mind, would wish to be ruled by a self-serving clique of foreign old etonians with their derisory claims of democracy.

Their culture may have unique characteristics but apart from that they are as varied as anywhere else. What helps people here is the environment in which they are able to live their lives. This tends to lift the spirits and promotes wellbeing which in turn fosters happiness. Being relatively isolated also creates a community spirit and a willingness to look out for others. I suppose a little like an island community.

What, you mean you don’t have a load of poor people from certain sections of the community looting and stabbing and shooting the local populace. You talk about the EU like it’s the saviour of the world and yet you choose to live in one of the most bigoted areas of the country. You argue as to what is English and what is not and yet you couldn’t pick a more single race community to live in if you tried.
