The co-commentator today (Gary Birtles?) made the point that as a player if you are given too many instructions and information of what to do on the pitch you can get confused and become frozen with indecision. He said under Brian Clough at Nottingham Forest each player was given simple instructions and allowed to express themselves more freely in their play and it worked.

You suspect this sums up the difference between PV and RH. Vieira, and more probably his inadequate coaching team he surrounded himself with, over-complicating things. Whereas Roy adopts the more old school way of getting the basics right and trusting his players to follow his simpler instructions. Certainly Eze in particular looked a lot happier today and free to get on with how he wants to play than he has in recent months and same could be said about most of the rest of the team.

He may be 75 years old but Roy also seems as enthusiastic as ever and that also seemed to have rubbed off on the players. It was good to see and hopefully this lifting of their mood will see them successfully through the remaining 9 matches

Fine result, congratulations to Roy, Ray, and the team. Roy obviously encouraged them to get forward and not be afraid to shoot.
Just checked the Bournemouth highlights and they very nearly went 2 down, the Fulham player hit the bar, but they carried on going forward and got their reward, as we did.
Hopefully this result will be a springboard to more positive performances under Roy and Ray. Good stuff.

Just got back from the match and have to say that was a totally different performance to the pile of crap we have been watching most of the season.

Plaudits in particular to Eze and Edouard (who finally realised that if you run you have a chance of closing down and winning the ball), Schlupp who I thought played great first half but tired, Doucoure who dominated the midfield, Wilf who looked more dangerous than most of the other games he’s played, Mateta’s lovely cameo and our solid back 4 who, apart from Wards massive lack of pace looked secure throughout.

A very good performance with 31 shots on goal, 9 on target versus 3 shots, 2 on target. If Leicester had got anything out of that game I would have felt aggrieved but ultimately I was elated with the final score.

Not sure how much Roy has changed the team, but he has certainly brought some effort and vigour to the team. Well done Palace, a much deserved much required win.

Got to listen to John Salako’s take on the match afterwards, who was gutted that Vieira had gone but agreed we needed a change and saw the match as a Vieira team playing in a more free manner. Never thought one of Roy’s teams would do that but I’ll give him his dues, he picked an attacking lineup from the start and didn’t really stray from the path.

I thought we were poor, first 15 of the second half but then we dug in and it was fantastic to see us going for the win. Well done players and management.
