I just hope that poser Parrish has nothing to do with picking our new manager. He knows how to pick a decent suit and car but what he knows about football you can write on the back of a fag packet.

You are talking about the chairman of Palace, right? Looking back over the years since he and his buddies saved us from being history, I would say SP has delivered. His contribution (not perfect, but who is?) has been no less than phenomenal.

Except for the high turnover of managers and the inability to build a stand when other clubs have built entire stadiums during the same time frame and a tendency toward hiding the chequebook when it should really be out buying players and proclaiming that the sun might not come out tomorrow when referring to the fact that our one striker who couldn’t score was sufficient for the remainder of the season, who of course subsequently got injured.

I wouldn’t call it phenomenal, he’s made plenty of mistakes along the way. If anything I think he has been fortunate that we have maintained PL status despite some of the penny pinching decisions at certain transfer windows.

This is sure to agitate a few on here, but it is not without merit. If performances and results persist Roy deserves a second crack.

He is a different animal to his previous spell and he ticks almost of all the boxes the board are looking for (age aside):

- He is presiding over a team with far greater quality than previously and getting them to perform.
- He obviously knows the club and board and isn’t as troublesome and as demanding as you would (reasonably) expect a new manager to be.
- Presuming our remit is to compete for Europe, Roy has proven previously at other clubs that he can compete on that front, and with further quality investment he would have a greater chance of fulfilling it.
- You get the sense that he has learned from supporters’ frustrations with him previously and that he is prepared to throw his defensive inhibitions to the wind and produce more attacking football. (Our previous three games have been nothing short of entertaining and deeply satisfying).
- Roy obviously wants the gig. You can see it in his interviews. And Parish knows it too.
- We’re Palace and we don’t go by anyone’s rule book!

Thoughts? Am I the only one thinking all this?

You mentioned before that he now has much improved quality in the squad, it's therefore not surprising that our football when not so entertaining had to be played so to ensure survival, I personally would've kept him on before and improved the squad along with him ..so yes you're quite correct to suggest what you have.

Roy resigned and didn't expect to go back into football management.

There were people on here saying they wouldn't renew their season tickets if they had to endure more of Royball !

We don't know what conversations or lack of conversations were had with the board. Perhaps Roy resigned as he sensed he would not be offered a new contract or transfer funds?

It certainly looked at the time that he wasn't being offered another years deal. So his resignation satisfied both parties I suspect.

It is not Parish's fault his isn't a billionaire and it isn't his fault that Harris and Blitzer renegaded on promises made by them but it is Parish's fault that we are still running as a football club whatever division we are in.

No he didn't as the club didn't renew his contract

I’m not convinced with the mentoring idea. It smacks of hand holding

I notice that when Parish took over as chairman he didn't ask Simon Jordan to mentor him

He has been our most successful Chairman ever, his record speaks for itself. Everyone makes some mistakes, it’s how you mitigate them is what counts.
You aren’t fortunate to survive in the most competitive league in the world for 10 years, one year maybe, but 10 no.

You pronounce a lot of your statements as fact without proof. What exactly did Harris and Blitzer renege on?

I have no problem with Parish except that I don’t consider his contribution to the club phenomenal. He is like a top lightweight boxer trying to compete in a heavyweight division. Looks good but ultimately doesn’t have the strength to win a fight at that level.
