Good win, well done to Roy and the team.

However, I strive to not be reactionary and I'm afraid it does little to change my mind that we should be considering our mangerial options.

The late substitutions continue to infuriate and I'm sure is partially responsible for our injury record. Roy said before the game that he was upset that he hasn't had a full squad to work with this season. Well, he never uses the bench and that's why.

Absolutely desperate to see Franca given more than 10 minutes as well. He better play in the FA Cup. Would like to see Ebiowei as well.

On a positive, Olise is an unbelievable player and I think will eventually be far superior to Zaha in his career. Sadly it won't be for us but let's enjoy him while we have him, even if it's just for another 18/19 games.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

Have to say Mateta was terrific again today.. I think he’s been working hard on holding the ball up for others.. will keep Odsonne on the bench for a while…

Whatever anyone thinks of Mateta ability and goalscoring wise, at least with him up front defenders know he’s there, he puts himself about and rattles defenders

Very good point.

If Mateta was not a big old lump he would not be a footballer. He’s a physical presence and a a glory hunting forward. With a bit of a workrate, he’s both a goal threat and a useful asset. Benteke had all the right attributes but not the mentality to match. JPM is similar.

I thought he was superb today, if he played like that every game we’d only be talking about replacing Zaha, covering for Doucoure and the wing back position. Let’s hope it bodes well going forward and he can turn out similar displays.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Yep - that’s the problem - Roy’s game management is just so poor..!!

I’m delighted with the win but lets not kid ourselves here - against a very poor Brentford side - ravaged by injuries.

Yet somehow we made them look good in the last 20, when they were there to be put to the sword - why because Roy won’t use his subs - consequently we’re running out of legs..!!

Just typical Roy and that’s what’s been happening for weeks..!!

For me todays game and result just papers over the cracks - Roy is still so stubborn in that he will not make use of the potential that is available to him..!!

No doubt today would have saved his neck - but you can see from the last 20 - what there is to look forward to for the rest of the season - same old, same old - when the potential is there - just so frustrating.

Yes we’ll stay up but it will be totally uninspiring and painful to watch..!!

As I said at the start of the game - irrespective of the result I’d still replace Roy - but it won’t happen..!!

Parish quite happy he doesn’t have to spend any money - whilst all we’ve got to look forward to for the rest of the season is abject mediocrity..!!

Brentford are often used as example of how a football club with ambition should be and why cant we be like them. All of a sudden they get labelled a poor side, as we beat them.
Todays game was good entertainment value, not sure what people like you expect.
Why is Parish happy, its not his money, if you knew how the club is financed.

Back home from the game now. Huge relief to win and massive effort from the team.

I thought Lerma was excellent today but haven't seen others mention him. Eze was out of sorts despite a good goal, and he, Mateta and Ayew ran out of steam, which is why Roy should have made his substitutions at least 10 minutes earlier.

I don't actually think we look as if we have any strategies for attack, other than give the ball to Olise or Eze and hope they can do something. In contrast Brentford did have some clear plans on how to attack Palace and threatened us despite not having players of particularly high quality (Toney, Mbeumo, Henry and Mee are big misses for them).

So I certainly didn't think the win was a managerial masterclass by Roy, though we know our squad is desperately thin in terms of quality. Other thoughts were that SJ is more solid than Henderson, Guehi / Andersen are consistently excellent at centre-back, Clyne is a better option than Wardy at right back. And who was that great big new bloke playing centre forward and doing a great job of it ?

Yes. Unfortunately I think it looked like he had picked up a knock. Wrap him in cotton wool with a 3 week break until the Arsenal game.

Seemed to pull up when making a recovery run after our late corner. Looked awfully a lot like another hamstring injury. Absolutely gutting if so. The kid I'd dynamite. And after the medical team warned management about him being overworked it'd be infuriating considering we still had a bunch of subs to use.

That’s why I couldn’t stand Benteke, I can take a striker not scoring goals if they put themselves about, give their all and contribute in other ways. Benteke was lazy and for a so called ‘big Ben’ he was lightweight and not up for a scrap. Mateta at least fights for the shirt

An essential three points today, but we have a lot of work to do.

It's going to be a hard road to survival this time.

Lots of people on here talking about facts that Roy always makes late subs which doesnt ring true to me, so I've checked out the last 10 games and these ARE the facts about his subs.....
chelsea 79 / 90
brighton 59 / 70
man city 34 / 80 / 81 / 91
liverpool 45 / 68 / 84 / 95
bournemouth 29 / 69 / 69 / 86
west ham 82 / 87
luton 49 / 54 / 80 / 80
everton 67 / 83 / 89
burnley 58 / 70 / 70 / 86
tottenham 60 / 70 / 70 / 79

I dont think that qualifies as always makes late subs.

As crazy a notion as it sounds, I just don’t think Benteke particularly relished being a footballer. He never looked as though he was even moderately pleased to be out on the pitch.

Was such a waste; he was towering in the air, not abysmally slow, had good ball control, understood the game (when he wanted to) and could certainly finish. C’est la vie.

Fairest summary. Desperate lack of quality aside from the obvious.
