retires with immediate effect! Strange one - although I guess as a world champ he's achieved what he set out to do. As a new(ish) dad I imagine he'll want to enjoy the time that the millions he'll have earnt allows him to spend with the family.

A true winner retires although nearer to home, the legend in his own mind, who certainly isn't, remains in charge to torture us fans.

Is that a pop at Hamilton? Why isnt he a "true" winner?

Not that strange. He doesn't want to risk getting put back in his box.

He's on par with his dad too, which is all he would've really cared about.

Optimistic as ever

Hmm - I think it's a Pardew reference . . .

I think James Hunt did the same its quite logical that to be a World Champion once is enough altho its safer you are still at considerable risk - and for what you've already done it.

Fair enough. At least I did ask before writing four paragraphs in support.....

He didn't. And Rosberg and Hunt couldn't be less like each other.

Doesn't need the money. He'll have earned a fortune and he probably didn't need it anyway as his dad was pretty well off already.

He knows he isn't actually Hamilton's class as a driver so probably won't match him.

There's a possibility the rule changes could benefit other teams so Mercedes may not be as dominant, so this was as good as it is likely to ever get.

Or maybe he just realised it isn't a proper sport and it's 90% about the car so why bother.
