Oh yes, if you have left wing ideals you're not allowed to make something of your life or earn money. How f***ing inanely stupid can you get!
Bit like ...
If your poor and speak out - politics of envy, if you've got cash and speak out- champagne socialist. What a w*** argument that never deals with issues because that would involve forming a counter argument.

You will be surprised no doubt to learn that I am a fan - of his music and some of his politics (the, very, Old Labour/Unions bits).
Favourite albums are Life's a Riot and Talking With The Taxman.
The worse, is English, Half English. Musically a shambles. Lyrics mainly incomprehensible, or sermons on how we are so nasty to asylum seekers etc. The indigenous English are all awful and everyone else is wonderful. Perhaps it is something in the Dorset air - or lack of asylum seekers there to inspire him? Luckily I only paid £2 for it in a charity shop - unluckily there is a bonus CD with it.
Then there are the books, The 'Progressive Patriot: A Search for Belonging'. The book is an attempt to explain the several major contradictions in New 'Left' thinking and the arguments become so convoluted and arcane that it reads like some religious or Marxist theological work, ie: claptrap. I managed about three quarters of the book before I gave up on it. He seemed to be saying that we don't know how society will develop after mass immigration etc, but that it will all turn out well - I expect Dr. Frankenstein said something similar just before he threw the switch.

Wind yer neck in. I can see you frothing at the mouth & I'm over 3000 miles away, I wouldn't want you choking on that artisanal bread your having for Brunch. My point is that it is a tad hypocrytical to be preaching about downtrodden miners et al when you live in a million dollar mansion.

Are you saying that when Billy Bragg had made a few bob he should have turned round and said to people 'f*** you and your causes I've made money' whilst simultaneously suddenly not being concerned about things.

I'm going to go with a controversial choice, and pick a compilation album 'Victim of Geography'. You get the magnificent 'Talking to the Taxman' and 'Workers Playtime'.

Separately, great albums, but together a thing of absolute beauty. Although 'Tank Park Salute' from 'Don't Try this at Home' is a remarkably powerful song about loss, and resilience.

It really does bring the kind of people you find on the internet into sharp focus when you discover that they listen to Billy Bragg.

And a while ago Gusset was joking about 'Screwdriver'.
I had to look them up.

No maybe he could put his money where his mouth in & say I dunno build a factory, open a business & employ some of these downtrodden people? Even some of the people in the Hip Hop community who are some of the most self centered people around even realise that putting something back works.
