How the bloody f*** has George Osborne landed himself a job as editor of the Standard? Isn't there a conflict of interests having a standing MP and ex chancellor deciding what goes and doesn't go into a paper?

Are suggesting that there are people out there who are not biased? Obviously everyone has their bias. But I don't think it is unreasonable to expect a newspaper to be able to critique the current government. It will obviously be more difficult for Osborne to be objective (although given he was an ardent Remainer and isn't a friend of May, maybe it won't)

Since when did MP become a part time job? They get a very healthy salary, plus very generous expenses - is it too much to expect them to only have one job? If I were one of his constituents, I'd want to know how he's finding time to hold down a second job AND represent my interests in parliament. And that's totally non-partisan - I'd think the same if Corbyn took over cyclists monthly, or Diane Abbott became a model

It's things like this that get the public frothy mouthed about MPs having second jobs. Unless he is editor in name only I don't see how he can do both oles effectively, I also question his suitability for the role. There is an argument that MPs can and should have two jobs, especially as being an MP is not that well paid. For example, professional careers like an MP who is a practising doctor should be able to carry on in some form.

Being an MP, as you say, should be a full time job.
