As my son just said, we gave sicknote Wickham a new contract but haggle over this! He has been playing regularly ffs

We are the most frustrating Club... look at Sheffield Utd.. get their deals done quickly , they’ve just bought someone from China so it can be done... get this Ferguson deal done !! If you leave it to the last minute your asking for trouble....

The last thing we need is to sign someone and then they spend 90% of their contract on the treatment table. We have far too many of them already.

I wonder if the club realise how lucky they are to have all this expertise within the fanbase?

Turns out a good few on here are:

Planning and land development experts for the purposes of moaning about the new stand not being there already,

Experienced and successful top flight coaches for the purposes of moaning about the tactics that have got us the longest stay in the top flight ever.

Accountants with detailed knowledge of financial fair play regulations for the purposes of moaning about the clubs spending.

Insiders with detailed knowledge of each and every part of a transfer offer and contract negotiation for the purposes of moaning about not signing any particular player.

And now, as if it couldn't get any better, medical advice is being offered!

It doesn’t look as if getting cover for fullback, was the priority it should have been.

This can all be traced back to Pulis selling both our left-backs in 2014 just before following them out the door. Wardy having to play LB etc. We've never really got over it. Has TP paid up yet?

The opposite actually. I specialise in recognising when I either have insufficient subject expertise, or insufficient information to form a firm view.

Shame you don’t specialise in recognising that football is all about opinions and an emotive subject - especially if you’re a long standing Palace fan and especially around TDD.

I do recognise that. But there's a difference between having a (sometimes passionate) opinion and just talking bollocks.

But surely we are in exactly the same place before AWB burst on the scene. Right backs award /Kelly left backs PVA/ Schlup/Reidewald (in place of Papa). I agree Kelly is not a natural right back and is better at CB. But this is exactly where we were before AWB. So the cover is adequate, not exceptional, but adequate.

It’s right to say the situation hasn’t changed much for a few seasons now. And as we sit on 30pts it’s proved adequate.
The manager has made it clear,it’s a situation that needs addressing, if we want sustainable progress, and as his tactics and use of average players out of their best positions is one good reason for us having that many points. Then it is adequate for now in his hands.
Going forward very doubtful.

A teenage crock? I tend to think it’s a youngster with an injury. We all had them. Very lucky if you escape them. Definitely doesn’t mean he’s got a life problem though

I agree. Never really understood the sense of urgency to replace AWB. Before he emerged it didn't seem as if a new right back was urgently required, so he was basically a massive bonus. That's why selling him made such sense - we got top money for a player we already had cover for in the squad.

Personally I also think that Schlupp is our best left back, even if he prefers to play on the wing. He's far more than just makeshift cover.

By all means plan long term by trying to get a promising youngster, or even get an established senior upgrade if a great deal comes along, but we surely have other priorities.
