Red card for the West Ham player overturned. For my money his foot in the follow through was left in their dangerously. I've seen Ward do similar Thought Luke Shaw should have got a red for deliberately handball v Leeds.

Well let's see if there is an appeal and what it brings. I have just reviewed it again and to me B does more than follow though and forces into the back of the leg, but it is not an easy spot. The other incident I felt was a natural follow through. Sakho last year, for example, a natural follow through. The ref, after consulting the monitor, looks very clear in his mind. You are welcome

Cheers Spidey, TBH for anyone with the slightest understanding of the game or who has played it at any sort of level, you could see instantly that that was NEVER a red card and has quite rightly been overturned on appeal. Thank you for the link and for the update, it is just disappointing that the vocalists haven’t had the decency to acknowledge your update too and the fact that they were wrong... It is however a relief and somewhat restores my faith a little to see that the FA’s independent regulatory commission immediately overturned the decision and rescinded Balbuena’s suspension with immediate effect. Common sense prevails!

Must say well done to UEFA/refs during the Euro's. I have been vehemently against the use of VAR and it's application since it was introduced. What we have finally seen is referees only use it to overturn 'clear and obvious errors' - this was its original intention. Last night both the Kane and Sterling penalty incidents previously would have been assessed for minutes and possibly overruled. For what it's worth, in my opinion he got both decisions wrong, but neither were 'clear and obvious' errors and it was right on both occasions to stick with the original decision. Sadly VAR will remain, but I hope the Premier League will take note of it's application and bring this in next season. It's been a great tournament with minimal VAR intervention. The chat has been about football, not refereeing.

The referees appear to be using their judgment well (mostly). VAR as was originally intended in my view.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

I think that the free-kick and both penalty decisions were wrong but you could see why they were made and therefore VAR was right not to overrule the ref. It's not prefect but much better than we have had in the PL.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

Good to see that referees and VAR judges are being instructed to take a more sensible approach to marginal decisions next season. Common sense prevails.
