We all lose when this hits the fan. The idea of winners and losers was always a fallacy and should never have happened, pitting people against each other.

And an increasing number of people are realising that and realising they don't want a no deal Brexit in particular. Where is the justice for the majority of British people? As usual we end up living in and on the past. If you don't believe the majority would now go for Remain, let's have another plebiscite to find out.

I wouldnt, having voted remain in the first place. The continual bitching about losing the vote and obfuscation is embarrassing!

Like the man said, politics has changed

Next Parliament will be hung. And each individual will vote tactically based almost exclusively on Brexit. As such intentions will change in support of expediency. It will be like a referendum, maybe even to take us back in if we do leave. That will happen in any case in due course, let's hope not too much damage has occurred before then.

If we Brexit before a GE my gut feeling is that the public will have had enough of that for now. I think the when it came the GE would be normal service resumed. That is why Boris is picking off key Tory targets like crime so he can fight Corbyn on traditional grounds and point to what he has already done.

GE before Brexit will be a referendum of sorts and as you said I would expect plenty of tactical voting by the public and the parties.

France and Ireland are suggesting they will refuse to ratify an EU trade deal with Brazil because of the Amazon fires.

Very noble of both countries to put the environment ahead of their own selfish needs.

[Link]

On a purely separate note I just heard a trade expert on LBC explain that the 2 countries who are likely to lose out most to agricultural products from Brazil are .... France and Ireland. Funny the BBC didn't mention that.

Apparently our boy is over their talking to the Brazilians and hasn't mention the fires.

The leave campaign was one of several campaigns to exit the EU. It wasn't the 'pope' it didn't speak for everyone on the leave side.

We will have a new trading relationship with the EU regardless of what happens.

The 350m figure isn't accurate...it varies depending upon how you measure it....and I certainly don't agree with giving all the EU money to the NHS. It was a dodgy slogan just as the remain campaigns had 'project fear'...and continue to have.

Getting rid of immigration?

Baby steps....baby steps.

Good on him - revenge.

The voters (bless them) voted in Mrs May and her tory administration.

There has been a tory right-wing coup, not subject to elections and not what the voters voted for, their policies and ideology are different.

It is so easy in modern UK to gain power through the back door, through connections and what private school you went too.

I'm not so sure about the wisdom of having an election everytime a party in power changes its leader.....it has some validity however when we have elections we don't vote in the actual leader anyway....it's obviously individual MPs.

An election every five years ensures that a vote is never that far away.

Anyway...what do you care about democracy Steely? ....Were you making this point and demanding an election when Brown took over from Blair? I highly doubt it.....I wasn't, even though I couldn't stand either of them...and I was on these boards at the time.

As for the 'private school' point.....that's both of them.

At least the Tory front bench doesn't look like Labour's...'give a gormless tart a role' job with about as much respect for merit as you'd expect from a party led by second rate commies.

Second rate commies.
Ha ha that's a compliment.
Stalin wouldn't stoop so low for a vote.

Interesting read. I also noted a little throw away comment by the BBC that we have now completed trade deals with 39 countries. I believe these are with ones who already deals had with the EU so a cut and paste job but some on this board said this would be next to impossible take years etc.

It would seem that Mrs May and her team were never serious about planning for life away from the EU with or without a trade deal. I think the current team are showing that whilst there will always be bumps in the road it is not as bad as some fear.

I am glad to hear that they are using common-sense sense on border controls. I could never understand the view that we would not be able to import food and medicine to me that would only be true if UK officials and rules snarled up the process. After all if you are a Swiss drug company why would you not want to continue to sale your drugs in the UK? Any delays would have to be down to our side so thankfully someone has recognised this so I don't think it will be a big deal.

Just listening to the former head of The Border Control Force on the back stop. He is part of a panel of experts put together by Brexit MPs to solve the Irish border issues. Boris referred to this commission yesterday.

So far all positive he worked in Ireland so knows the issues well. His big concern so far is that the EU have refused to engage so if there are issues they have spotted he needs the EU to spell them out. However he answered all the big questions this means to me it is now about politics and then letting the experts get on with the boring implementation bit.

The means are there is the political will.

'He is part of a panel of experts put together by Brexit MPs to solve the Irish border issues'.

Really wonder what Irish people would make of that.

Good point, he pointed out that the commission has been to Ireland 3 times and talked to the public and businesses. He also worked on the north south border and has good contacts with his opposite numbers in Eire so has plenty of experience.

But yes you are correct any deal has to be agreed by both sides.

His main issue which goes to your comment is that currently the EU is stopping all customs officials from discussing a solution. So he was the first to admit that there maybe issues they don't know about but until the EU or more accurately the people who actually do the job sit down with them to discuss the technicalities they won't know.

As I previously said he was very confident that if the politicians get out of the way the issues can be resolved by those who actually do the job on both sides.

It was on LBC Nigel Farage show if you want to listen to him he wasn't promising unicorns and rainbows just talking common sense.

Do you know who else was on the panel?... Thought not, maybe some "Irish people".

Tony Smith I don't know if you know him. He was on for an hour and answered questions from the public seems to know what he is talking about but it's a panel so not just him.

I'm assuming this is the panel
