Without capitalism you'll never have enough money to have any socialist type programmes like free at the point of delivery healthcare and free education and all the other public services. Not sure I trust those stats. I'm a fan of capitalism myself but between 18.20 and 20.15 poverty's dropped that quickly? That's a hell of a lot in just under two hours.
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |

You don't need to throw the baby out with the bath water. Any government can care for the sick, poor, elderly etc. in a capitalist system. Governments just need to prioritise their spending. A UK government could raise taxes, cancel HS2 and Trident and use the funds for that purpose. Just because a political party has other priorities doesn't mean that the system is wrong.

Can anyone here define capitalism?

A question of priorities but what is any economic system for but for the benefit of it's people. But on the same lines as you.

I completely understand the point of social welfare, however, when implemented is rarely done on a 'real' case by case basis and by that I mean if you act a certain way, you can get benefits. Politicians are only interested in % figures and to be honest I would rather Jill next door get £100 a week benefits while working a cash in hand job than Mr. Biznizman not paying taxes on the £1b he's made in this country.
