You may well have been alienated by society but you also seem to have been rewarded by it. You have lucky to live in a society that rewards ability...it's not a given in this world. I do put self identity into my masculinity, but that doesn't mean I'm out playing darts and drinking pints and appreciating the curve of some girl's leg. Still, if I wanted to why not? Gender expression in a why that reflects your personality is no different to a gay parade....If it's you, be you. No one else has to like it. I get increasingly p1ssed off within today's popular culture with its doubled standards towards masculinity as opposed to feminism. A trans caller to Lbc this morning said masculinity and femininity aren't binary but a spectrum, like autism. I suppose that I'd be right in saying Dannyh is a more manly man than me but I bet he also has a feminine side.

I think there is sense in that....Sexuality interestingly though appears to be more binary for males and less so for females.....though still measurable via a spectrum. We practically all have a father and a mother so in essence we all have yin and yang, masculinity and femininity. Though when we analyse what it is to be masculine as opposed to feminine or vice versea I suppose we are again back to a spectrum of traits.

Go on with that idea, it's a bit vague. When they measure male and female sexuality. Males tend to be predominantly heterosexual with a minority of homosexuality and some bisexuality. Females follow the general pattern but with a lot more bisexuality. There's some evolutionary explanation for it that I can't remember.

That's sexuality, but what about gender? When we say gender...You have the physical differences between male and female. That's binary except for rare interstate situations. If we are talking mentality....I suppose we mean traits measured upon a spectrum don't we? I only recognise two genders but from within that people are what they are. We all self define and others define us. Freddie Mercury was a good example of how complex these things are. Edited by Stirlingsays (26 Jul 2017 1.18am)

Edited by Stirlingsays (26 Jul 2017 1.18am) I used to think it was pretty easy, until I studied Psychology. Sexuality, Gender biologically, Gender identity, personality etc are so complex, and impossible to easily define, that I think I know less with any certainty, than I did before. People are who they identify as, even if its something as absurd as a white girl identifying as a black man - because realistically, absolutely no one except that person can really have an idea of what is really going on under 'the hood'. I doubt that anyone who claims to be transgendered and lives openly is doing it for any other reason than it being 'their experience in the world' and I think that ultimately, we as a society have to get on with that and just accept that if I can be who I am, then you can be who you are, and steve can be Eve, if it makes steve happier.

Depends how you measure sexuality. 45% of Men and 60% of women interviewed report having had sexual experiences with members of their own gender - which kind of puts a bit of an emphasis on bisexuality with a preferential choice - Which interestingly is reflected among our closest biological relative the Bonobo Chimp. I'd probably argue that the most common of human sexuality is masturbatory. Even among men and women, I reckon people crack one out to their own bass strum more than they have sex. My feeling is that people are sexually defined by pleasure and kinks more than biology or procreation. Is right to limit heterosexuality to just being man on woman, if it involves bondage and non-penetrative orgasm.

Bonobos don't have highly restrictive cultural limitations on who they can have sex with unlike us humans who are forced to masturbate and commonly spend a long period with one partner. That is the price we pay for a civilised existance and one that ultimately gives us the most peace of mind.
