Ah, so even though Hodgson explained that Rio was left out because of his injury record, and even though the number of games Rio had missed, and the lengthy rest he needed between games are all a matter of recorded fact, and even though he did exactly the same thing with Cole two years later, none of this matters. Ferdinands back injury meant he had to rest for at least a week or longer in between games. It wasn't going to get fixed, it just had to be managed that way. Not uncommon, but no use for a tournament. Plus we had other good centre halves to pick from (you may recall Lescott playing very well that summer).

Whilshires injuries needed no such regime. He was either fit at the time or he wasn't, and at the time he was fit - hence he played in three of our four games there. Not uncommon, you may recall Brazilian Ronaldo missing hundreds of games before the 2002 World Cup, but being fit enough to play every game and be top scorer at the time. Plus, as you may recall, England were desperate for anyone who could pass water let alone a ball.

So you're making a false comparison to support a narrative you have opted for, rather than forming a view on the facts.
