Well if that's true then it's a bleddy joke.

The Handball Law was amended and came in to force at the start of last season.

It should be the law that a handball must be deliberate, no law is perfect but would resolve 90% of these issues.

Clearly Mitrovic, not my cup of tea, did not deliberately handle the ball it was accidental, but I understand it was allowed only due to recent referee advice.

Right up to winter break this would probably have been overturned.

RH is an opponent of undeliberate handball he is right imo.

The idea that you can interpret the law in two different ways according to ref advice is flawed.

Let's have laws that are clear and concise.

It was allowed as per the amendment to the Handball Law prior to the start of last season, accordingly the goal would still have been allowed to stand up to the winter break.

If it happened anywhere else on the pitch it would have been given as handball .

In which case I don't understand why Madley was invited to consult the VAR screen.

VAR must have thought there was a possible handball even though they would surely have had a clear enough view to decide whether it was accidental or not.

SO in theory then, VAR thought deliberate, Madley thought accidental - or am I barking up the wrong tree ?

There was no doubt that the ball made contact with Mitrovic's arm.
It would appear that there was a difference of opinion as to whether it was accidental or not.
Subjectivity and all that !

I think you can criticise the tactics, as not getting enough from the players. Particularly out of position ones.
However, if a manager is to implement tactics then he also needs the tools. Our personnel just aren't that good - and it gets worse past the relatively predictable, first eleven. Someone needs to play along side Doucoure, at least sometimes, particularly if we are against teams trying to exploit how weak we are down the middle. I guess it has to be Hughes or Luka but it hardly fills me with confidence. Add in having no real striker and the problems get worse.

If Marco Silva had have been our manager we would have beaten them comfortably with our players, its not the players its the tactics

“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn

I don't agree with that. I think by and large Viera has been very good for us. Attacking, exciting young players but we are under performing and were comprehensively outplayed by Fulham. My only question was the absence of either Edouard or Mateta in attack which I think would have made a big difference against the excellent Diop, even if only to allow more space for Zaha and Olise. Something clearly gone on in the background with these two.

I have not seen the Nottm Forest incident. In terms of Fulham's second goal, the ball clearly hit Mitrovic's hand but it was deemed "accidental" and as he was not the player who scored, the goal was allowed to stand.

I have just perused the following :

"After initial question marks over whether or not it struck his arm, the goal was actually ruled out for offside after a touch from Willy Boly at the back post. He had strayed into an offside position as VAR stepped in for its routine check, meaning United saw their clean sheet preserved at that time in the showdown"

It's one of those frustrating incidents where the outcome varies depending on when it took place. There was definitely a time when any handball en route to a goal was deemed an unfair advantage, regardless of intent. In this instance, I still maintain it aided the goal, even if it was accidental.

Add to that the fact that VAR was ignored... which never bloody happens. Just a bum hole situation really.

Still... we were too s*** to deserve better luck. When a team has 70% possession, they're 70% more likely to get the good fortune. I'd have felt pretty sheepish if we'd scraped a 1:1 from that game. Which given Ayew hit the bar at 0:1, it wasn't a million miles off happening.

Exactly. I think it's fair for VAR to say to the ref, 'look, it's hit his arm, you might want to take a second look.' It's fair for the ref to make a decision with all the information available. Personally, I'm frustrated with the outcome, but can respect the decision, even if I don't agree with it. I get it. I can see why he gave it. It's tough s*** on us.

We failed because we did so little to control our destiny.

It seems that we have an invisible thermostat set at 7th, and we cannot go any higher. I think that we are where we deserve to be,some of the football that we played against Fulham was no better than bottom three.Lets just enjoy the ride and not go all Bolton or Stoke. Just ask their fans now if they regret trying to go to the next level.
I am not saying that we shouldn't, but that we should try when the time is right,I.e when we get a good crop of youth players or get strength in depth of young players, but that is near impossible.
