My friends within minorities seem to have a lot more experience of violence, threats and abuse from whites, than I have had from minorities.

In fact despite living in Reading (very ethnically diverse) and working in Slough for 10 years, I can think of only two incidents which come close, both related to the girlfriend I was with - but I also got grief for that from white people too.

Generally I think the 'friction' is really an excuse perpetuated by people who are generally c**ts to justify being c**ts. Everyone else generally seems to get along, except the people with an issue or chip on their shoulder.

Well one would expect that in a country which is around 85% white. You seem to be suggesting that there is no problem and on that we must disagree.

Are you also claiming that there was no historical friction between Catholic and Protestants? Or was that just more c***s?
Because most people get on fore the sake of a peaceful life does not mean there isn't a problem, and one that is likely to increase as numbers increase.

That's odd jamie, because I remember going to reading years ago (a night game I think),and the police offered us a escort to the ground because of segregation...saying we might be attacked by blacks.

No, there are problems, but they aren't common place - the norm by far is people getting along. You said interacial violence was common place, and I pointed out violence is an uncommon and rare experience for people across their lifetime, and that by default any subset of violence is also rare.

I don't think the issue is immigration, but there is definitely a problem created by the kind of migration we've been seeing under the Freedom of Movement - especially since the credit crunch created a down turn in the economy and in job availability.

If that's back when Reading were at Elm Park, it could have been an issue, as that area was 'crime central' about 15-20 years ago - and there was a lot of trouble there (not just with black people, but at the time the whole Oxford road area was somewhere you just avoided).

Not really the case now, its still a bit rough, but no where near the trouble hot spot it used to be.

Occasionally walked to Elm Park to catch the odd game when I lived in Cemetary Junction around 20 years ago. Forgot about the Oxford Road! That said, nowhere near as bad as Lower Clapton Road where I lived for a while.

Fair enough but a big mob of Palace, especially at places like Reading, could look after themselves quite nicely back then so still reckon the police were trying to put the willies up 'em.

As a group, probably true. But its not an area of town you'd have generally wanted to walk through if you weren't local by yourself.

Also a lot of the Reading hooligans, such as they were, lived in and around that area.

So the biggest problem, would be with white on ethnic violence, but the problem is the immigrants? Isn't that victim blaming?
