Perhaps the nation could be provided with a list of subjects about which it’s permissable to make jokes. Worked for the BBC for decades and look what a bastion of open minded fairness they are.

Footballers are not noted for their brains or common sense so I give Wayne the benefit of the doubt on this. What annoys me is that the FA (also not renowned for their common sense) have thought fit to issue a summary of their deliberations. My sympathies are now 100 per cent with Wayne after that ..

I find it very hard to believe that he didn't know what a nazi salute looks like. It was a clever get out though, playing the 'nice but dim' card. Even if he did it intentionally it was clearly a joke, so I don't blame him for using whatever explanation would work.
