Apparently there"s warehouses full of PPE in this country that we are shipping out to europe, the companies had offered it to the government but they didn"t want to buy it, so its off to Germany and other places, meanwhile, we fly planes out of brize norton to pick up supplies in turkey,,,,,,,you couldn"t make it up! Laura Kuenssburg asked Matt Hancock about this idle PPE stock in British warehouses about to be shipped out to Europe. He couldn’t give an answer and preferred to say he wanted to focus on the bringing in of PPE from abroad. Very embarrassing. Someone is at fault here. She didn’t grill him and probably couldn’t.

He just said on sky that they have had over 8000 offers of PPE and are looking in to them, no rush i guess!

I wonder if there is profiteering behind this. Refusing to get shafted perhaps. So far Hancock has come out of this quite well when I have seen him.

Ramadan starts on friday. I do hope that people partaking will keep the social distancing after sunset. I beleive that meal times are traditionally huge both in content and attendance. Numbers in 2-3 weeks will be telling.

I agree about Hancock, although yesterday it was being suggested he would be sacked, presumably after the pandemic has subsided, which, if true, imo would be unfair.

I haven't heard that rumour and hope that it isn't true as the poor bloke had only been in the job for three months when this all blew up

If heads are going to roll, and I think this is premature as the facts are not yet in, it must also include senior civil servants and advisors. The idea that the Health Secretary on his own is solely responsible for the mistakes doesn't make sense. It maybe as the senior he has to carry the can but it's about time that those further down the ladder also have accountability. I would make 2 further points : 1. As far as we can tell the government has followed the expert advice. If that is true and the advice is wrong that needs to be recognised. 2. There appears to be incompetence or inefficiency around testing of NHS staff and procurement of PPE. Somebody is responsible and is supposed to be in charge of this and if they are allowing red tape to gum up the works they need to be held accountable.* *I was in charge of my department on 2 occasions we had major disasters one of them being 9/11. I identified the blockages preventing business as usual and escalated them to senior management requesting a deviation from normal procedures to unlock these road blocks. I would hope that someone in the NHS / Civil Service is doing the same thing if not why not.
