Interesting to see what develops in Japan. I first heard about the rise in cases on the BBC this weekend so I was sceptical. But it seems the situation in Japan is becoming a problem for Japan’s hospitals and there are reports of Covid patients in ambulances being turned away. It’s too early to see what’s fully happening yet and as has been discussed, a full analysis can’t be made until much later after the pandemic is over or done most of its worst, but it looks like Covid could be on the attack again there so we’ll see what develops and what Japan does. Some of its critics think Japan can’t adapt after appearing successful to begin with.

In the meantime we’re all waiting for Germany’s lead and hopefully avoiding the situation in Spain and Italy, but have we?

And it’ll be interesting to see (if) Sweden stay out of lockdown comparing their now rising number of cases and deaths compared to Norway’s falling as Sweden was thought to have the virus under control without any worries. Of course Sweden’s economy is currently in a better condition. Again we can’t come to final conclusions until way down the line but it shows how this can be turned on its head.

My guess is that depends on whether getting the virus protects us from getting it again. From what I have read that is as yet uncertain and also depends on the level of exposure, or the "viral load" you face.

If we can get it again then so called "herd immunity" becomes somewhat irrelevant because we won't be immune. We might be somewhat immune, so unlikely to suffer to the same degree, but still capable of spreading it.

So without a vaccine things will get very difficult indeed. There is the hope that anti-virals will be found that ameliorate the symptoms.

I suppose people will have to decide for themselves what level of risk they are prepared to accept. Social distancing and masks when in public would be the new normal and the very vulnerable encouraged to remain isolated.

Even more worryingly “an expert” yesterday suggested that rather than produce immunity the virus might actually make people more susceptible to serious infection if they contract it again. Obviously a large amount of guesswork since no one really knows.

I doubt those claims, however if it turns out to be so it could add fuel to the idea that this isn't entirely natural.

I know that the US government are taking seriously the claim that the lab in Wuhan was the source.

How the hell does a country that has the sixth highest GDP in the world find itself in a position where it's unable to manufacture the most basic of necessities such as PPE.

It's a joke....We have China being given a place in our communications network with the Huawei deal....surely that's got to go....We had China effectively purchasing British Steel, and Beijing even secured a deal to develop British nuclear station Hinckley point C in Somerset.

That's neo liberals for you....economic appeasement....Yet, look how much they are willing to spend on a virus.

You know who wouldn't have allowed this foreign ownership of national infrastructure and manufacture.

China.

It was mentioned on the news that we’re importing PPE from Myanmar. If it’s from this supplier it kind of squares the circle.

Every day the economy operates at this level the deeper the mess is going to get.....I'm not sure the politicians and media are quite communicating to the public how serious the consequences are.

Simples ... from the perspective of a disenchanted ex civil servant ... we have a government department responsible for overseeing industry staffed by clueless officials and Ministers who wouldn't recognise good business even if it came out of their own backsides! The Chinese were never allowed free range access to government officials/ departments but I suspect they've now managed to 'buy' their way into this one.
