I think this is a massively understated point, and the HF don't really both with anti- anyone chants, bar the "Can you hear x sing?" one.

Depends if she's moved on or is obsessive. Or maybe she's singing heartbroken pop songs.

I think most sensible people realise that sometimes it's banter and sometimes it isn't. Intent matters.

It seems you have a purist perspective that welcomes all words, not matter how hurtful.

As the gay palace supporter has said in this thread - someone or worse a crowd of people shouting homophobic abuse feels like a personal attack - banter or otherwise. Surely you must see that?

I have some sympathy for it, yes. I've heard stuff that I think is just out of order.

But I have far less sympathy for the view that words are violence....which I fear is the path that leads to.

There are controlled environments and there are less controlled environments. A football stadium isn't a library.

Watched the documentary last night. Having read the posts I can't understand what all the fuss is about for some people. It's 2017. There's lots of things we did in the past that we don't do anymore. I grew up in a world where any kid who was suspected of being gay was given a terrible time. But the world and Palace have moved on. It's not about being left or right wing, it's about simple common decency. If anyone thinks that not chanting homophobic abuse will ruin their experience at Palace then I feel sorry for them. Perhaps they ought to start supporting Neanderthal United, or West Ham, whichever's closest.

Watching the Alfie doc. There's one of my posts on there:

I'd like us to sing:

Can you hear the Chelsea sing no no
Can you hear the Arsenal sing no no
Can you hear the Tottenham sing no no
Can you hear the Scousers sing no no
Can you hear the MAn U sing no no

I cant hear a f***ig thing

Whoa whoa.

They'd hate it. Job done, on tv as well.

I am very suprised at these comments from someone who lists himself as an ex-teacher. It is not indicative of the comments I hear from teachers who are very concerned at both the physical and verbal violence they witness both personally and witness towards peers.

Whilst I accept that verbal violence is difficult to define as each individual's acceptance / tolerance is different. We need to accept that verbal violence exists and that steps need to be taken where people feel threatened by it

Most teachers are left wing, but not all.

I disagree with you. I don't recognise the term, 'verbal violence' nor do I agree with it. Words are not violence. If you had grown up where I did you would appreciate the difference.

I believe in the safeguarding of children most definitely...All controlled environments require professional and civil behaviour.

The ex-teacher thing isn't up-to-date.

But they can be the direct trigger to encourage it and to actually make it happen. Rwanda '94 and that radio station show comes to mind.

Is that what we should tell Wilf next time he hears monkey noises?

Just banter Wilf your not in a library...

Sorry but our gay supporters should have to endure those chants just like Wilf shouldn't.

Sure, words...or ideas can lead to it. That doesn't make words violence. If you move down this path it allows you to ban non violent ideas.

Listen, the radio stations in Rwanda were telling people to go out and murder people. That is rightly against the law here and in most of the west. It's not words as violence but the incitement of violence, it's an important distinction.
