I'd question anyone who is seriously venting an opinion at football match in a serious way. Football is like pantomime, but for so called grown ups. Its basically a catharsis of shouting advice or abuse at people who are vastly more skilled than you'll ever be and generally have the life you can only dream of. Which kind of shows the absurdity of shouting what might be homophobic (or more correctly childish school playground nonsense) at people who earn more in a week than most of us will earn in a year, questioning their sexuality (when we've no idea of their actual preference - but likely regularly can involve access to every fantasy we've had). If a footballer can ignore the insults regularly thrown at them by the opposition fans (and players) I doubt they'll be too concerned about people questioning their sexuality based on their teams location. Taking this kind of thing too seriously at football is a bit silly. We should really be more concerned about maybe is how serious some of the people in the game and fans may take that - Because it does seem odd that players are only out after their career ends. Whilst the fans might contribute to it, the atmosphere in the dressing room and clubs is probably far more significant than Palace fans shouting abuse at Brighton. I think its odd that there seems to be as much focus on what we're shouting at a game, as there has been about pedophiles in the game being protected by clubs and owners.

I just said that is someone is hurling out '****** this', 'queer that', thinking up terrible illnesses to wish upon people they are behaving in a way befitting of any worthwhile value system. The skill of a good comedian is to make people laugh, not to preach the truth of life - and by poking fun at things. The difference between a good controversial comedian and one who's just s**t, is how they craft their humour. I like Burr and Frankie Boyle because they're really juxtapositioning the absurdity of existence with how our own self importance frames our beliefs. Same as George Carlin and Bill Hicks, Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor etc. That's not to say every 'controversial comedian' is great, its a very fine skill set. Just laughing at the n*ggers or the queers isn't enough, you have to make people laugh about how absurd it is that people care whether someone is gay or not, when we have a finite duration of life and things we could care about.

I pretty much agree. Good comedians examine takes on life. They're often self critical and allow us to hold a mirror to our own experiences and beliefs. It's not just laughing at skin colour or sex acts or whatever. There is something to it.

I like Bill Burr and even the likes of Norm Macdonald. They've both said all manner of things about race and sexuality but there is no malice there.

Well, I agree with you but Burr gets a lot of sh1t for his routines.....It's definitely wearing him down a bit. I listened to one of his podcasts on it. Your problem I'm afraid is that you consistently have the sensitivity of a ballerina and a real visceral pained reaction to anything said and done by the left... but a zero empathy, 'who cares' take on anything said about minorities. There is no connection there. You get the theory of it, but you don't really care. That's why you can't let go of this 'animal' comment. You think you've caught me out somehow, when really you just reveal that you don't care if people have spittle flying out of their mouth as they yell out stuff about aids or ******s. Well done you. If someone takes high moral positions it often can be contradicted later on.....So they should rightly be very certain about what they say if they don't want 'feedback'.....Which we earlier agreed was a good thing I think. You're right...I don't care about an idiot (not you) saying idiotic things outside of a controlled environment...as long as that's all it is...It's something I'll suffer for the greater good and the necessary blurring that subjectivity brings.
