Us British destroyed the Summer Palace in China in 1860. It was one of the country's most beautiful palaces and we did it out of spite...and because they wouldn't buy our drugs. When it comes to destroying buildings as acts of terrorism ISIS are amateurs compared to us. Just take a look at Iraq. What happens in war is hardly the same, plus didn't the Iraqis take it down as well? As for 1860? Are you serious man? You come up with an example as old as the US civil war itself?

All this pulling down of old relics and yet Selhurst Park is still standing. Something is badly wrong with this world.

Ironically, it was a statue of a Confederate soldier that got toppled and for which people have been charged. But the fact that such monuments have become lightning rods to the white supremacist movement in the U.S. is a good enough reason to move them to places where they can be displayed in the appropriate context. Leaving them in places of honour fuels the racist's fire. ^^^ I don't think people this side of the pond realise these monuments erected in the KKK's heydays act as a lightning rod for racists.
I have prepared one of my own time capsules. I have placed some rather large samples of dynamite, gunpowder and nitroglycerin. My time capsule is set to go off in the year 3000. It will show them what we are really like. |

Well, it's your opinion and you're entitled to it but personally I don't go with the idea that Elvis or the BBC were ignorant. They just saw these aspects differently to you. Elvis for example sang, 'If I can dream' which pretty much shows that he was very much aware. I don't think the BBC have ever been ignorant...even when they had the black and white show...I can just about remember it...elitist for certain....liberal, for certain.....a giant pain in the arse sure... but not ignorant.....These were different times with different perspectives. I'm closer to theirs than yours. Edited by Stirlingsays (23 Aug 2017 6.48pm)
