For me it's not about who they let go but who they replace them with. The BBC has always released sports pundits once they get too old mainly because the viewers can't relate to someone they are too young to remember in their prime.

did you forget that Lineker seems to be unsackable ? he could drape himself in a Palestine flag and throw darts at a photo of Donald Trump and still never get fired.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

Probably because there are more appropriate things that define him. Like being a male, heterosexual, ex international professional footballer who is now a TV presenter.
