I remember going to Carlise in 1981 or 1982 and we lost 4-1, my 1st ever game away by train I have a similar bad memory. I went there with 3 mates by car pre-motorway, journey was dreadful, weather was awful, beer was rubbish, game was appalling lost 3-0 in FA cup. Can't find anything good to say about it at all. 3rd January 1966.
lo Selhurst silva felix, lo Selhurst cara nutrix, viget, vigeat, vigebit! Best team:- Jackson; Gilbert, Evans, Cannon, Sansom; Hughes, Kember, McNichol; Byrne, Holton, Wright. |

Henry Hughton in goal. Diving out full length towards the edge of the six yard box, and completely missing the ball. Hysterical! Edited by JeffBourne (10 Jun 2011 11.14pm)
A new era of total football is on the way to Selhurst Park!! |

Palace beating wolves 4-1 in the 70s danny light getting two goals, which meant wolves got promoted, but only as runners up.

Man mountain Mickey Droy scoring a goal at the Sainsbury's End and as he walked back in celebration, Finnegan and Gray jumped on his back and he didn't break a stride and continued to walk with them hanging onto him. That early Coppell period was very exciting. After years of stagnation we had a lovely blend of old heads and very hungry young wipper snapper kids.

The last 3 months of the promotion season in 89. Playing Bournemouth on the day of the Purley train crash in the days before widespread use of mobile phones and there being tannoy announcements for people to ring home for almost the whole game. 3 weeks later we had the 5 penalty game against Brighton. Then we were at home the day Hillsborough happened Then the riot caused by Birmingham City fans on the last day of the season. All followed by promotion in the play-offs against Brighton

Joe Jordan should have been sent off before then too as he almost decapitated Gerry Francis with a "challenge". I had a loathing for them then too as I knew a bloke who'd never seen them play but was always going on about how great they were. Some things don't change.

I remember to Sheff Utd mid 80's on a coach, it was a time when Palace hats were the rage, got to Sheffield and there was thick fog, could only think the game would be called off but it went ahead, we couldn't see the other goal, or their fans but could hear them, game ended 0-0 terrible away day.
We are Palace from Selhurst. |

Brian Whitehouse going in goal at Coventry - must have been mid to late 60's & us drawing 0-0.
