Working hard?

Doubt it otherwise we would not be a week away from deadline day with virtually no transfer activity!

A week away! Deadline is 1700 this Thursday 8 August, less than three days away.

I’m astounded that people are still happy to slag off Parish and generally moan and groan about the club having just achieved our highest ever points total in the Premier League.

We don’t generate a huge amount of money in comparison to other clubs and therefore have to spend within our means. Parish is trying to improve the situation by expanding the stadium and STILL that’s not good enough. Too many of you lot want immediate success and it is so BORING and UNREALISTIC!

Get real and try to understand it from their point of view. They no doubt want the best for the club and I’m sure they’re working hard behind the scenes. If you’re not happy with this, you’re not obliged to stay around.

Positivity breeds positivity, negativity breeds negativity.

I have been going to Palace since 1961 so don't preach to me about immediate success. Iam, actually, just pleased we are still in the Premier League and I have always supported Parish... but as I have previously said it was SP who stated we cannot afford to stand still and he cannot forever live on the "he saved the club" mantra. With all due respect I am not particularly happy with the transfer window but I will stick around as I have done for the last 58 years. If you don't like any criticism aimed at SP your'e not obliged to read these posts

This really is starting to verge on the ridiculous. Our squad is now really down to the bare bones and we are still letting people leave.

The club must have players in place to come in if they are letting players go out the door but this is a huge risk if any of the deals we are working on fall through.

We're now in a position where selling clubs must know how desperate we are for players and can quite feasibly push their prices up.

They way we are going, we are going to have to do another winter madness like we did when we bought Luka, PVA, Schlupp etc.

Isn't this what you get for leaving everything so late? A tactic that SP, apparently, believes works in your favour...unfortunately I have yet to see any evidence to back up his statement in any transfer window

fully agree, add Jack and Meyer to that list, what we paid for Benteke was insane, especially as Klopp knew he was rubbish, his 15 PL goals in the first season probably did keep us up that year to be fair but then he retired, alas Parish had agreed a crazy salary in his panic buy moment which he specialises in, as it is at the moment we could not give him away as no one with any sense would want him!

Bit harsh to put Meyer in same bracket as Jach. I have a good feeling Max will come good this year, if given adequate game time

I disagree with this bit. At the time everyone was over the moon we bought him and not a single person thought we overspent. It's only with the benefit of hindsight that we can say this now.

I also think that this year will really be Meyer's year - providing we can field 10 other players alongside him!!

That was true, but alas it was based on his performance for one season at villa, as we now know one swallow does not make a summer, the fact was that he was not considered good enough for Liverpool by Klopp and because we were so desperate we did agree a stupid fee (27-30mil depending on who you talk to) even when other clubs were not fighting for his signature, so clearly the price was high and clearly others could see that the man had something missing. To be fair his fee was covered as I have already said by the 15 PL goals that kept us up in his first season. Then he became complacent did not work hard enough and his lack of floor skills were exposed. We should have off loaded him at that point even at a reduced fee to mitigate our losses (keeping us up in his first season and the revenue that provided for us was justification for taking a loss). Now we are stuck with him until his contract expires and this is holding us back. This is just another example of errors at the top and as we know there have been plenty of them in recent seasons!

Letting Sorloth go is a positive move. Who else has been let go, that actually contributes anything to the team. AWB was sold not let go, for a stupid amount for a player of one seasons experience.

Just seen Brighton paying 20 million for Maupay. 22 yrs old goalscorer and yet we still see the Palace board labouring away. Maupay is exactly what we should be going for but again we are either too slow or not in with a chance. I love this club but there are times the transfer policy makes no sense.

It’s too easy for people to say buy this player, buy that player. Firstly, spending loads of money and bringing in loads of new players doesn’t guarantee we will finish higher next season. Secondly, look at Spurs last season who progressed without spending money. It is do-able.

I’m not writing this saying that we don’t need to add to the squad because we do but too many people are stuck in the ‘compare and contrast’ mindset, looking at other clubs buying new players and panicking because they think that means we’re not going to do well. Brighton and Bournemouth have spent big but we finished above them last season. Let’s not forget how much Fulham threw away thinking they were going to progress.

I still like Parish’s measured approach. Yes, he’s made errors along the way in an attempt to kick on eg De Boer, Campana, Marange, Kebe, Sorloth, Jach etc etc BUT he’s attempted to move on and learn.

For the record, I do think we will buy players- Cahill, Camarasa and a right back and forward. They will be improvements on the players that have been moved on. Maybe for the exception of Wan Bissaka.

Spot on I have been bleating on about Maupay for months! 20 mill for a 23 year old is going to prove really good business for Brighton! My opinion only the lad is a natural finisher who will score at any level! A different kind of striker to what we already have small, quick with a real poachers instinct.

We come up with yet another aging player at 33 years old! With the current age of our squad we are rapidly building the best and most expensive walking football team ever! Come on Palace please show some forward thinking FFS

One swallow does make a great Friday night though
Just a bit of humour as all our moaning and groaning and SP this and DF that.
I dont necessarily think all is rosy in the red and blue garden but f*** it I'm still in until I either cant physically; or am too poor to afford it.
Up down up down up down
That I'm afraid is the group of teams we are in with.
