It's early days but I can somehow see a repeat of De Boer here. It almost seems bound to go wrong but we just don't do well with these kind of managers at the helm. A win against Brentford would take a ton of pressure off. A loss and then that pressure double again and you just really don't want this to go to the De Boer way with a number of back to back losses straight away, that would be a disaster. But that all said, it is too early to say even though it was a tough opening day fixture for us. If we get a win against Brentford then happy days - there's our start to the season and we go to West Ham with a bit of fire in our bellies. Edited by george1212 (16 Aug 2021 11.59am)

We lose a game to the Champion club of Europe and people are saying if we lose to Brentford next week we have a De Boer type crisis. This is nothing like De Boer. Vieira is prepared to compromise his preferred style for the sake of pragmatism. He even used Hodgson's 442 instead of his preferred 433 on Saturday in an attempt to keep Chelsea at bay. He did it with the what is likely to be the weakest team the club will put out this season due to injuries and ineligibilty. it will take time for the new players to settle and the squad to become comfortable with the system. Fortunately, we have some of our toughest matches in the first ten outings and whilst that may result in us being in the bottom 3 come the end of October, we should be better placed after the Citeh game to pick up the points need to move out of danger. After the Citeh game on the last weekend of October we have the following run of fixtures up to Christmas: If we're still in the bottom 3 after those games then we may need to start to worry a little. So let's just relax, get down to SP on Saturday and roar the lads (and the manager) on!

I agree with you on this doombear. Fail to understand why so many are comparing PV to FDB. In many of the interviews with our players they have spoken highly of his vision, style, encouragement and support he's given them. I don't recall the same level of optimism coming from the squad during the short time DeBoer was with us. If memory serves (and I accept it struggles sometimes) the atmosphere was much more downbeat. PV needs more time and matches with a fully fit squad before any more criticism is cast his way.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

I don't think there is a de Boer type crisis but there are similarities in that there was a long drawn out managerial appointment with "muddled thinking" and we have started the season underprepared regarding the strength of the squad. Back then Benteke was our only viable CF as well although Ayew could perhaps do a job at a push.

FdB lost "must win" games vs Huddersfield and Swansea at home. Plus a game where you'd expect to gain points at Burnley. Then blamed the players. We have exactly the amount of points most of us expected to have after the first round of games. Burnley and Newcastle both lost winnerble game at home. It was a worse weekend for them than us.

Its not an FDB situation as he lost the dressing room and the board very quickly.
