I would call myself a passionate Palace fan, but I think for £40M+ (& hopefully getting Zaha's sell on fee annulled) is rank good business.

AWB is potentially world class, but:

a. He won't fully realise that potential at Palace (deal with it).
b. Full backs are more easily replaced than some other positions.
c. Look at Trippier - 2nd season syndrome - AWB could suffer the same (or get injured).

Agree about Clyne - he's not what he was

But you need to get a grip. We’re all gutted about AWB but his sale makes sense.

He wants to go to Manure - for whatever reason. Personally I think he’s leaving us a season too early and to the wrong club but I’m not in his shoes and earning 9x what I was before.

We have extracted top dollar for him.

And let’s be frank: we could do with the turnover. You say we dont have ambitions for top 10? Well call me naive but I think we are desperate for a striker.

I remember when we regularly had our pants pulled down by the big boys coz we had a chairman who would sell at the first chance and barely replace the player. In contrast to those days - look at what happened when Bolassie went.

This is a different era - 7 years in the top division?

So United still have the 25% Zaha sell on fee apparantly. If true then that's great negotiating from us again...

TBH I can't see why Utd would ever have agreed to that. 20% sell on for a player rated 60 to 80 mill is 12 to 20 million.

But look on the positive. for as long as Utd have the sell on fee it means we would want more money for him if anyone wants him and therefore less likely to leave.

So in my books Utd keeping the sell on fee is a good thing.

No use keeping an unhappy player.

I wish him well and hope for a decent replacement.

No player is bigger than the club.

A shame. I did think that we might have got another season from him but I guess you take your chance when it comes along.

I'm sure we will all remember his excellent contribution to our cause over the last 18 months and it was good to finally see another academy player make it in the first team. We can only hope there a few more rough diamonds in there who when polished up can follow AWBs path ( into the Palace team not Man Utd that is)
