Long ball only works if 1. You have a couple of big lumps up front to win it. And 2. You have to be aggressive and forceful to make it work. Not only do we have no players in the modern day that would know how to play that way, even if we did there would be a red card in every game. Even if we were 'firm but fair' the diving from the other team would be ridiculous and the ref would 100% side with the 'footballing' team.

Well the way we are playing at the moment is hardly setting the world alight. Look at the header Mateta scored recently, it was a simple cross finished by a striker. Benteke and every striker we have had has been starved of that service since we’ve been in the premier league. Shearer would fail to score for us in his prime.
I completely agree that the physical side would not be tolerated but I think the point was nobody is going direct. It’s worth having a try because me personally, I am sick to death watching s*** teams try and play like Man City.

Liverpool as an example are at there best when they ‘counter attack’ put simply Alison uses a quick throw up field to Salah and he is in the opposite box quick as you like by passing the midfield. Then has a go or usually has Nunez or Jotta busting into the box.

This is basically a refined version of long ball. Im not saying we are Liverpool but we sure as s*** ain’t man city either and at least we would be in the opponents box/half more.

You have know idea how the long ball system works, it is about keeping the ball in the opponents half, that is the reason why in Patrick's post Pulis first question is does anyone have a long throw, it is not about elbows and thugs, when the ball goes over the full back he is pressured into giving a throw away, this is why Wimbledon and Coppell's Palace left the grass longer so it wouldn't roll out over the goal line, it was a premeditated system that the big clubs hated, and we had our most successful seasons

“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn

You're just paraphrasing Marcus Aurelius there, come up with something original.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Apparently McKenna doesn't want to join while Ipswich are still in with a shout at promotion.

For me, we should wait until the season is over and then go all in for Edwards of Luton.

We would be a perfect step for him, near the top of his realistic possibilities.

He'd get us playing front foot, physical football but still be pragmatic when needed.

What more can he realistically achieve there?

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

I think that's an interesting analysis. The overriding thing I take away from it is that Brentford have signed players to play a certain way. We have players like Andersen and Wharton who are capable of going direct and at times they do. What we don't have are the traditional aerially dominant forward and speedy striker to play like Brentford. Without Toney and Mbuemo they couldn't go so direct and it showed in their results.

What Roy has to do is work out the best way of playing with the players he has at his disposal. To my mind in all the bleakness the one thing that has been proving effective is getting the ball to JPM's feet. He has proven to be highly effective at holding the ball when played to his feet and bringing others into play. If we were to go long against Everton their centre-backs will completely dominate. I don't rate either so much when defending on the ground.

Many now predicting an Everton home win by a couple of goals and suggesting that a home defeat against Burnley, will force even indecisive Parish to take some action and sack the rather sad,but ineffective Roy.
