Each individual will have differing opinions, but may share the majority of views with a group of others. When you belong to a self identified group, you might choose to uphold shared beliefs publicly and underplay differences, or even express opinions that you either don't actually agree with or have no reasoning with which to justify them, simply to be a team player. Well before the Taliban returned and banned them all, there were several left wing parties in Afghanistan including the progressive Watan Party who were Muslim secularists, believing in a separation of church and state so people can practice Islam without letting it influence policy. Much like most European countries are supposed to be if not for the Christian Right.
