My Dad is a Millwall fan and Mum is West Ham, but my aunt and cousins were Palace mad and were much more insistent that I join them. I followed them for a bit and remember watching the David Hopkin play-off final on TV, but my first game I went to was in the 1997-98 Premiership season against Bolton when I was 7 years old. I went with my Millwall supporting Dad and sat in the Arthur. The game ended in a 2-2 draw. The following season the parents bought me my first season ticket, so I used to go with my aunt and cousins, and I never looked back! Palace Till I Die!
"I have come to love this club and still I am in love with this club" - Dougie Freedman, Palace legend. "FOR F*CK SAKE MURRAY!" 30/11/11 I was there! |

When I was a small boy, my dad bought me a Crystal Palace shirt. I was about 4-6 years old. Despite me being young. I still can't bloody remember what month, day or how old I was. So I'm guessing somewhere between 4-6 years old. Edited by CrystalPalaceFC2000 (23 Jul 2011 1.23pm)

1962 (aged 5) against Notts County in the Third Division South remember getting passed down over the tops of everyone's heads so as I could stand behind the barrier. Cliff Holton and Bill Glazier were playing with I think Johnny Burridge, Stewart Imlach and the late great Johnny Byrne. Remember eating Percy Daltons peanuts and an Italian woman selling them. She was there for years.

1st game of 1968/69 season in Div 2 against Huddersfield Town, Palace won 2-1 and were to gone on to finish runners-up to Brian Clough's Derby County to gain promotion to the 1st Division (there was no Premier league in those days !). I saw every Home match that season... hooked ! Was on the pitch for the Players' "big strip-off" at the end of the last home game in 1969 too - was it Fulham - obvoiusly now going senile watching the Palace !
My CPFC addiction began in the 1968/69 season watching John Jackson in Goal... the best keeper England never selected! ps. Liverpool 3 Palace 4 (never stop believing !) |

29th August 1972 - Crystal Palace 1 Manchester City 0. John Jackson saved a penalty and the follow up and kept out many other attempts on goal. It was a Tuesday night game and I was hooked! Up until that day I had only seen football on a less than sharp black and white TV. That season we had Don Rogers and went on to beat Man Utd 5-0. Haven't looked back and have ridden the highs and lows...
Supporting Crystal Palace since 19.45 on 29th August 1972 (approximately)! |
