People like Bill Gates should be celebrated and the world would be a worse place without him, from enabling poor people to own a computer, to providing jobs, helping business, to using his wealth for philanthropy. He could never even exist in a socialist utopia.

I totally agree with you that you don't kill the goose which lays the golden egg....instead you feather the nest.

I'm as jealous as the next man about rich people. I work in environments where money is no object literally no object. I was tipped £50 yesterday for 2 hours work which I got paid the hours for through my firm anyway. That's where I would like to be. I wish I was them without the aggro that comes with being rich. That being picked on as the route of the problems. They put in the bare minimum money which is still a hell of a lot more than most. And the ones you won't defend Stirling are the ones who don't even put in the minimum and they are out there. Like I said fairness has to be both ways. Your statement seems loaded by the way and being a teacher allows you to think like that

The wealthy are actually a group of people which is getting bigger Not through actually getting richer but by the gap between rich and poor closing. So it is very narrow at present and will get even more so. If you have a house worth a million you are now deemed as rich and in that bracket. But you only got that because you bought it ages ago. That's not down to an individual being an entrepreneur and stuffing people on the way up. It doesnt mean you are rich as you need to live somewhere. It does seem like no one actually gives a monkey's about what the rich pay. Unless they can "surely" pay more. Be careful not to kill the goose which lays the golden egg.

I wasn't always a teacher and I don't teach much anymore......It's a burn out job if you do it properly....one of a few in the public services.
When I helped run my old man's pub in Bermondsey back in the nineties we had a few city guys who liked the old Swan & Sugarloaf.
I learnt enough to know it's a completely different world.

Very nice TUX To what exactly When I got repossessed in the eighties I didn't blame the rich When I lived in a council flat on shrublands for 12 years I didn't blame the rich When I visited the council 3 days in a row with statements , aferdavids from family and all the proof to prove I was potless with a Mrs a kid and a mortgage with no job I didn't blame the rich. And you think I'm clueless. Ha ha when did you go there TUX. When did you get a £20 crisis loan after all that to feed your family on beans on toast for a week. And some piss head in the cubicle next to me gets his £200 giro for him and his mates tenants super. I didn't blame the rich. I played the loan back 11 years later with £15 interest and I didn't blame the rich. I might be naive, I might come across as a bit stupid, I might sit on the fence. BUT do not call me clueless cos I been there matey. HAVE YOU ??????

I don't think it's a case of blaming wealthy people, that's what governments want you to do, blame other sections of society like Immigrants so they can mug you off and continue to force austerity on you.
But the fact is the wealth gap is too wide in this country. For example London has more millionaires than any other city in the world yet homelessness has increased significantly. Public transport is too expensive, renationalise and subsidise so it is affordable comparable to the rest of europe. I'd also increase the minimum wage. Plus I don't want to live in a society where executive pay and bonuses are a plenty yet Nurses only get 1% pay increases on already menial wages. Again i'm not blaming the rich just highlighting the imbalances

I don't think you can use a national boundary to compare the wealth gap London is always going to have more of everything finance wise.

You are ''clueless'' in thinking that the rich are the goose laying the Golden Egg when the truth is the complete bloody opposite! You're happy with financing their wealth, i'm not.
PS A bit strong of a response, soz, but you have to change your bloody mindset bud. Rich people take more than a fair share of money from those who can least afford it. That's you that is

So if trickle down doesn't work, what's the solution?

Go on then How do they "take" it. This started by me saying they pay a lot more on tax than you and me, and that it is a bit strong keep wanting more. Then I stated a fixed amount annually would be fair in my eyes. So there is no golden egg then. If you look at figures the top 10% pay at least half of the tax take to the government. Is that not a golden section of society. What you want is everyone to be equal. So let's be equally f####d when they leave. My response was of someone living in the real world not blaming other people for their bad luck or misfortune or even self implosion. And who are those who can least afford it. That's down to who gives it out and policy of government. Maybe some people don't know how to manage what they have and go on the warpath of people who can manage it and have got it when they screw up.

Any good economy is driven by it's largest participants, the middle/working classes. The 'rich' add little in comparison to this group (despite the rants of the blinkered). Stop raping the economic drivers. Simple.
