Back in the day a senior player could not retire on their football wages so either they went into coaching or they ran a pub. Today these players do not need to work, there is plenty of media work for the photogenic and articulate so this comes back to why go into coaching? Many players make a deal with their partner that once they finish playing they will focus on the family which often comes second e.g. moving clubs / countries. A PL manager is even more time consuming and high profile than being a player as you have 25 time bombs waiting to go of. Is it any wonder that many players think no thanks.
Media work for the articulate! You obviously have never heard Jamie O’Hara on Talksport, even his fellow presenters take the p***. Edited by Spiderman (10 Aug 2021 8.01am)

Wicked sax player. Anyway, Dion Dublin is too articulate and intelligent to be involved in football anymore I'll be very surprised if he didn't have a few offers from the p*** industry! I think Martin Roberts was a bit upset when they took Dublin on for HUTH as he was miffed that they were employing an ex-footballer to present the programme rather than a property expert. Getting back to Sol Campbell. It doesn't seem that long ago that he wanted to be a Tory MP or run as their candidate for London Mayor.

Did Dublin apply for the Coventry City managers job then?

Is it any wonder Dion Dublin is managing homes under the hammer rather than Coventry city Dion Dublin is an intelligent articulate man who earns a good living presenting a popular TV program as well as being a regular BBC TV pundit. Only an idiot would want to swap that lifestyle to manage a lower league football club that has been in crisis for years and until this season didn't even have a home ground
