The Right Wing signed us up to Maastricht and freedom of movement for foreign workers. The Right Wing joined the EU in its original form. The right wing encouraged economic liberalism and were anti-protectionism. Most of what we have now that you don't like is the result of right wing government's implemented free market policies which were not reversed or regulated during Labour's tenure 1997-2010. The Right Wing by 2020 will have been in charge for 28 of the last 41 years. But let's blame the left anyway.

Far from being propelled by economic migrants, this crisis is mostly about refugees. The assumption by the likes of Hammond, May and others is that the majority of those trying to reach Europe are fleeing poverty, which is not considered by the international community as a good enough reason to move to another country. Whereas in fact, by the end of July, 62% of those who had reached Europe by boat this year were from Syria, Eritrea and Afghanistan, according to figures compiled by the UN. These are countries torn apart by war, dictatorial oppression, and religious extremism – and, in Syria’s case, all three. Their citizens almost always have the legal right to refuge in Europe. And if you add to the mix those coming from Darfur, Iraq, Somalia, and some parts of Nigeria – then the total proportion of migrants likely to qualify for asylum rises to well over 70%. If that is the case, you should settle in the first safe country.

Do what France did, declare them all safe countries. Job done. Australia ships them off, Israel traffics them back in to Africa. We just want another European country to deal with their own problems, not much to ask is it? If we left the EU however, we could easily cope with those seeking refuge or asylum as the net migration figures would drop off the cliff from current levels.

You've forgotten the coalition government, once again. f*** who signed up to what and why. It wasn't the current generation of voters, on either side of the fence and those that did get to vote believe they were blatantly lied to.

And over 600,000 between March 2014 and March 2015. That's also rather a lot- under a Tory (albeit coalition) government too! Immigration (much like the NHS) should be completely depoliticized. But, far easier to sling mud about 'it's the fault of the liberal left' or 'its the fault of the big business right'.

Whether we are 'in' or 'out', the bottom line is that nothing will really change. Fact.
