Penny Mourdant looks decent But apparently useless. Lord Frost was interviewed on Talk Radio this morning, she worked for him during Brexit negotiations. He said she had little understanding of what needed to be done, was unable to give difficult messages, went missing when things got difficult, after six months asked Boris to replace her.

I heard him speaking this morning too. Looking for a scapegoat. He resigned for spurious reasons. Besides, I find it hard to respect anyone who starts every sentence with 'so'.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Twelve years now since I begged other conservative commentators to join me in my call for the Tories to lose the 2010 election, so they could be destroyed & replaced(they didn't).Now all can see that the Tories are an unconservative rabble. Who genuinely cares who leads them next? (Peter Hitchens)

The only acceptable candidate for me is Tom, and I suspect he will be eliminated this afternoon. The other 5 are all electoral liabilities, no matter how closely you feel aligned (or otherwise) to their policies. In 2019, the country would have voted in Hitler if it meant an end to the Brexit fiasco. That appetite is no longer there, at least not with the same force. If the party elect someone who is strong Brexit thinking he/she will cruise to win in 2 years on that ticket, they are dreaming. they will be banging an old an tired drum. I honestly think there will be a step back from nationalist populism into old style safe/dull "sensible" economic management - and that is Rishy or Tom. Truss will effectively represent the handing over of the keys - probably to a Lib/Lab pact. Thus, now may be the time to accept something you don't like in order to avoid something you like even less.

While the SNP dominate Scotland Labour just aren't realistically going to get a majority. It's probably more a case of which leader and how popular.....Even with the terrible state of things a hung parliament is the best they probably can get. A Lib/Lab pack?....Mmmm....if that were possible maybe, but I think those days are gone. Edited by Stirlingsays (14 Jul 2022 3.09pm)

Just flicking through Penny Mordaunt's book. Glowing foreword by Bill Gates, full of praise for China, relentless promotion of the LGBTQ+ agenda, wants to ditch the MBE and OBE, thinks more 'hate speech' should be censored... Great pitch for the leadership... of the Labour Party. (Toby Young)
