I have never voted Tory and only voted Labour for tactical reasons (although I did like Blaire when he came in), so would ideally look to someone in the middle parties. But I see no statesman-like performers there. Much as personally I see Blaire as a kind of disastrous 'dark lord' I think he agrees with you on the main figures on the current political landscape. A centrist, he would alienate as few folk as possible, although the hard right and militant left would hate him... just because. Meanwhile, he spent another 7 years as an effective and popular Mayor of South Yorkshire. That's the northern vote (re-)secured, especially in populous Yorkshire. And, more importantly, it shows evidence of leadership and ability. He may be hampered by never holding a cabinet or shadow cabinet position. I am honestly not sure that is a handicap as I think Liz or Rishy will find when they go to the polls in 2 years. The real issue with Jarvis is.. I doubt he is a union man so may lack the backing under their perverse electoral system; and I am not sure he even wants it. From your description he sounds like a 'Paddy Ashdown' type figure. He's obviously suffered from Labour's march further left since Blaire. You would think that if Starmer was actually serious about being a centralist that he'd actually involve people like that more. From what I know so far Kemi Badenoch is my preferred choice. Hopefully though by the end of the process we will know much more. Personally, I'd probably give it to however has the highest IQ and emotional stability scores. I think due to her popularity with the grass roots if Badenoch can get to the last two, the membership will vote her in.

These ladies and gentleman are firmly behind Mordaunt but of course Mordaunt might not reach the final two and if so the members will not have a chance to vote for her.

The real Penny: Personally I don’t see an issue with assisted suicide for the terminally ill, unless someone can tell me otherwise. Legal abortion has issues for and against it so I’m unsure there, although it’s done severe damage to the birth rates in Europe and the balance of Europeans being the majority now (in some places) and in the future (in most places). More woke politics would definitely put me off and I’m not surprised she’s another who’s as conservative as some of the Labour Party. They’ve dropped their beliefs as the useful idiots become the majority in lower age groups. Sad but true.
