Whilst I understand why some people think that what Allen did was more career opportunity than anything else, the fact remains that many 'issues' would be unknown were it not for celebrities or those with a high media profile bringing them up.

I don't think anyone can disagree with that Nick. Although I'm sure some will. I guess if the by-product of self promotion is a good cause then regardless of the motive, that's a good thing.

That said, I am still going to be cynical about Lily and also don't believe she is a spokesperson for the British public. I certainly wouldn't vote for a washed up pop star, who swears in all of her songs, to be the voice of the British public.

Equally true, it shouldn't undermine the fact that there is a real issue, anymore than Live Aid's self serving career boosts should obfuscate the problem of famine and third world poverty. Irrespective of whether Lilly Allen is the spokesmen of the UK, the issue of what to do to resolve the issue about the real issue of refugees and migrants needs to be resolved.
