Someone who is gay, is capable of moderating their sexuality and behaviour to acceptable social norms and restriction - and is compulsive or obsessively attracted to specific characteristics of masculinity only. Also they establish relationships of flexibility (i.e. long term relationships, emotional and psychological attachments)- where as the pedo is ONLY interested in the age of their victim.

Paedophiles seem to be fixated on specific aspects of youth (technically a pederast is someone who acts on those fixations) - Typically young pre-pubescent children. Which is why its a fetish, the desire tends to be not about preferences, but of necessity.

Obviously its not true of all child sex offenders, but when we're talking about the 'hardwired' type, its very different that seen in gay and lesbianism. The desire is typically for a male or female, without real regard for the interests or pleasure of their partner and within a specific age band.

That's very different from sexuality - which tends to be expressive, towards mutual ends and reasonably empathic. Where as paedophilia is effectively the fetishiation of the individual to the gratification of the offender. Its the youth element that important.

Even when homosexuality was illegal - the expression of the vast majority was for mutual consensual pleasure and relationships - With an empathic understanding of the needs and interests of their partners.
