I know you're kidding but, just for the record, calling out an individual for something heinous is not the same as calling all of The Weed "gay". There's nothing wrong with being gay, there's everything wrong with being a paedo (and likely necro, and possible accomplice of the Yorkshire Ripper).

I'm not arguing because I agree with you, but it was once illegal to be gay. I don't think being a paedo is ever going to be legalised though. Anyway, as I say, I'm not disagreeing and I'd rather us berate Brighton for being a load of sh*te next season.

Parrot

This statement is agenda-driven, aggressive, threatening and bullying activist PC propaganda BS and I for one will not bow to it. Fans say all sorts of sh1t about all sorts of diverse groups but at heart they are generally accepting and non-phobic about anyone, and you can shove your demands for conformity to your 'correct' language right up your ARSE.

Could argue that you're born gay the same way you are born a paedophile and both are a sexual leaning which can't be cured. As unpalatable as that may be. Differences being that another homosexual can be a willing participant whereas a child can't but you get my argument here .

I made this point at work the other day (although it was a train of thought from having watched Nymphomaniac by Lars Von Trier). It took a while to clarify that I wasn't condoning paedophilia but I got there in the end!

This, this right here, is the crux of it. Gay people ragging on gay stuff is fine. Spurs fans calling themselves "yids" is fine. Black people calling themselves the "n" word (edited to avoid company filters) is fine. Someone not part of those minorities using the same words against them is - almost always - not fine.

...this again. Also for Proud & Palace (or whatever they call themselves) to berate everyone on social media is the thing I find extremely patronising as well. I don't like the idea of being preached to with a almost 'political' type manifesto.
We are all Palace fans of all different persuasions & most fans are indifferent to Racism, Homophobia & any other Ism you can find.

Seriously why do we or any other club need a proud and palace group anyway. Can't people get on with being gay, felching , rug munching etc without having a committee meeting and going on and on about it. Get a ticket , go to football , watch the game and f*** off home for Christ sake

I definitely agree that the two scenarios you have mentioned are very different, and that one offence is worse than the other. However, it's not quite the point I was trying to make. What I was trying to say is, that just because chanting at football games may not be directed at gay people, or that people aren't violent towards gay people, it doesn't make the chanting in itself less homophobic. I hope you can see the distinction that I'm trying to make here.

I see your point about not getting worked up about it, and that it's just two hours of people being daft and silly. Whilst I agree that the majority are probably not chanting with any particular malice, I think to reduce it to just 'two hours of sillyness' is slightly naive. What if these sort of chants make a person feel uncomfortable at a match, meaning they choose not to return in future? Or a fan struggling with his/her sexuality hears these chants, making it even harder for them to come out or feel happy and comfortable with who they are? What if a young fan picks up on this chanting/abuse and goes into school the next day and directs it at someone else, thinking that this sort of view/ behaviour is acceptable. Yes I can see that I am probably labouring the point here, but I do think that it is valid.

Yes there are worse things in the world, and in football, than a fan calling someone else a 'bender' or accusing them of taking it up the bum. But I just think as a club it's time we moved on, it's outdated, it's offensive and it's just not necessary.

I hope this doesn't come across as an attack on you Kermit, I can see where you're coming from but I hope you understand my point of view as well.

Of course i can. Maybe it's a generation thing and maybe it's because I read recently about gay people being put into prison camps in Chechnya. When I was a kid very, very few people were openly gay. The recriminations were too severe.

There are still virulent, violent homophobes out there. I would hope the vast majority of protest energy and direct action is targeted at them and time not wasted on a bunch of immature football fans who couldn't care less really what sexuality you were.

I will say though is that strength of character can go a long way and that a thick skin is needed in this life for all manner of things. Rise above it.

nearly every away team that has visited the amex this season has sung songs about the brighton gay thing with not a lot of press coverage ,when palace play them and if there is any homophobic chanting it will become a national media issue which will be blown out of all proportion ,and bring the club in to disrepute ,i know a gay couple who are season ticket holders at the amex who are both from liverpool one is a toffee and the other is a red and they find most of it amusing ,i my self think its a bit 1980s we could do with out it
