It would appear that the efficient manner in which we secured the first three signings has backfired slightly in that people are now not willing to wait a couple of weeks for this one, potentially the largest in our history.

As the Football365 article above points out, not only is his goalscoring record in the Premier League exemplary but he would suit our style perfectly. It is grossly unfair to sum him up on last season when he is one of the 5 highest scoring players in the league over a 4 season period.

There are plenty of ongoing transfer sagas that have been rumbling on for far longer than this one and I would suggest that if there is still a genuine chance of signing him, we should go all out as he could well be worth 15-20 goals a season to us.

TBF I think that peoples impatience is borne from concern that dilly dallying could see us being beaten to the punch by another club.

Still got 9 goals in 14 starts for the bin dippers. It'd be a cracking signing, and it will take time to do the deal.

Ok so deals like this can take time - fair enough. But how long do you wait before you pursue other options? Wait too long and your other targets can be gone elsewhere. If this deal isn't done by the end of the week I say SP and AP should go after other strikers on their wishlist. Get him in and ready for the new season. Personally, I don't think CB wants to come here - wants to go to a bigger club. If that's the case let him warm the bench at Liverpool.

Not bothered whether we get him or not.
We are concentrating on the wrong problem, we can get some up and coming strikers at much less cost (maybe already have them in the Academy) but where we should be strengthening is in midfield. McArthur and Cabaye are good defensive midfielders but neither seem to have the confidence to bring the ball forward so we rely on long humps up to the wings (or when Gayle was playing, up the middle!)
Mata would be the optimum buy but as he will be too expensive (or won't want to come) what about Joe Allen?
Is in the UEFA team of the tournament (with Aaron Ramsey but not Gareth Bale) and likely to be available for around £15 million.
One thing is for sure, we can spend £100 million on defenders, keepers and strikers but if we don't become
creative we still won't score goals, with or without Benteke ...
