I do like folk's interpretation of "failure". Last season he was marginalised at LFC & many appearances were briefly as a sub YET he still scored more than any of our strikers and created more than 30 chances for team mates. Even Campbell would be worth £20m with that poor record. IF this happens I'll be happy but if not then I hope we'll end up with a good, if unproven, alternative.

That tends to imply you have a good idea of people who you think fit that description. There may be some out there available for less money that are of a similar or higher quality. But there can not be many. And even if there are, doesn't mean that a) they want to join us, which he seems to or b) that they would fit our style, which he would seem to. Yes it is a lot of money but if Norwich want £20m for Brady and Newcastle want £35m for Sissoko, then £30m for the 5th highest scorer in the league over the last 5 seasons would seem an absolute steal....

Each day I have to check on here to see if he (Benteke) is still a cheating diving scumbag who I never wanted anyway or if he is potentially our greatest signing ever.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

Benteke would have been amazing but with that huge fee we could get in two good strikers with cash left over - and we are looking at needing a couple more with maybe a third on loan.

Benteke is perfect for us, well worth waiting it out to get this deal done - if it doesn't, no one can say that we didn't try. All this, we need to spend £15 million on a third choice striker is starting to wind me up too - what £15 million pound player is going to come to Palace to be third choice??? Campbell hasn't been great but he serves a purpose and has always done a job, he will be third choice and not expect too many games - the best we can hope for is him or one of the other players like kai kai or Ladapo as back up - we are no where near the size of a club that can sign someone for £10 million plus, just in case we have a couple of injuries and that's fine by me - use the money to improve other positions for players that will actually play.
