Chelsea did indeed record some crap crowds in the 1980's but football attendances all over England were down in this period for a number of reasons (see my earlier post about Palace AVERAGING around 6,000 for consecutive seasons in the mid-80's....although having said that, they amazingly shot up to around the 20,000 mark for the 90/91 season when Palace finished third in the top flight. Hmmmm....glory hunters anyone?)

I don't really see your point with the money. You say you maintain that Chelsea bought the title...but then you go onto say that it is impossible to win it without large investment. So what is your point? You also say Chelsea 'sold out' but what does that even mean? The club were in a precarious financial position so agreed to a deal which was beneficial (and has proved to be very successful). What do you think they should have done? Resisted the offer and gone down the sh*t pan?

Palace have agreed to take-overs in the past (as have many other club) to save themselves. Without the recent take-over and investment, the club would have gone out of existence. Why do you think those deals were fine but Chelsea were 'selling out'? Is it because Roman is foreign and happens to have more money? Of course it would be nice if new owners were always dyed-in-the-wool, local fans but surely that isn't everything? Look at that bloke who bought Palace - Mark Goldberg. Were you happy with his spell at the club? He fits your criteria for a good owner (a local fan) so you must have been delighted even though it was a disaster and the club slid towards liquidation.

As for plastic fans, of course Chelsea have some. Every successful club attracts them.....but as far as I'm aware, this bloke (Chelski) has a season ticket and has been going for several years so I have no idea why you're calling him a plastic.

And do you really think there are no fair-weather 'plastics' at Palace? Indeed, a couple of seasons ago, you recorded the colossal attendance of 3,140 for a league cup game with Torquay. Where were all your 'fanatics' that night? Was some spectacular form of entertainment taking place in Croydon that night which prevented them from attending the game? Not too 'fanatical' is it? And of course you've been averaging around the 15k mark for the past few seasons (which isn't bad for the Championship of course).....but when you win promotion to the Premier League, Selhurst is full to the brim. So it appears a large percentage of your 'die hards' are only attracted to the bright lights of the Premier League.

No, Palace aren't winning trophies but being promoted to the Premier League is 'comparable' glory for the club....which is why 10,000 plastics crawl out of the woodwork each time you're promoted....and then disappear when you get relegated again. In my eyes they're just as bad as a Man United fan in Devon. At least those t***s are unashamed, blatant glory hunters. The plastics who suddenly re-find their 'love' of their local team when they reach the promised land of the Premier League do so under the guise that they're somehow more noble and genuine as the team is cack and not going to win anything. We qualified for the Champion's League the season before his arrival and won 2 FA Cups, a League Cup, a European Cup Winner's Cup, a European Super Cup and a Charity Shield a few years previously. And we had players like Gullit, Vialli, Desailly, Zola, Hasselbaink etc. But sure, we wouldn't have won 3 titles and a European Cup.

In regards to scunthorpe so what ?it's the FA cup! traditionally all the teams from the lower leagues take big numbers away in that competition always have really.The whole town come together to support their team David and Goliath etc
It's easy to sit on top of the tree looking down on everyone ,it's far harder to support a less glamorous team and still keep your love of the game when your getting battered every other week,

We had quite a few 20,000 crowds last year against less glamorous opposition ,they are still about.
We don't claim to be a big club we are a Championship sized club with average support ,where as Chelsea are all of a sudden are an European heavy weight it's amazing where a few years in the premiership a wannabe Chelsea fan and a great big sack of cash can get you.
I'd still rather be a Palace fan than a Chelsea fan for all the wonga in the world .
