I can remember that Liverpool experience as if it was yesterday!!! Frantically running across Stanley Park and making the executive decision that being in the Kop was a more preferable option than being chased all the way back to the coaches at the end of the game!!!

Closely followed by the ambush at Stoke as we left the ground!

Those are priceless memories.

Football hooliganism carries a great deal of responsibility for the likes of Hillsborough and Haysel along with the isolated deaths over the years. Less seriously, it also keeps thousands of fans away from grounds that they would otherwise attend. Meanwhile, many idiots on here look back fondly.

Old soldiers 'look back fondly'at war memories, does that make them idiots!.I was at many of the games mentioned as a youngster (11 at Chelsea 76') and it's been a great trip down memory lane reading these stories.this thread is not about morals, just memories.

Well said jamwom. We all do stupid stuff when we're too young to know better, doesn't mean we can't look back with a chuckle does it?

We know it was wrong, but as said we look back in fondness at some of the things that happened.

I make no bones I was a right little s***, but we grow up.

I was at that game - 2-1 victory in '79? - and in the Palace terrace behind the goal. Got the coach. No trouble at all our end at full time. Did you go by train? Probably left by a different entrance to us where their mob was waiting.

Most of it was just stupid bravado and lots of shouting. surging and wind-milling from memory.

The other bit was sometimes sickening violence and way way over the top. Darts, Stanley knives, etc. Usually scousers though the ICF did knife an Arsenal fan to death in the tube one Saturday afternoon. Some took it just too seriously.

Here y'go...

Recognise T.Elsie in the front with the top around his waste. Is that Clive Flemming behind?

Remember elsie well, last game of that season 81/82 we played Newcastle at home and it kicked off on the pitch after the game.
Elsie was fighting some big Geordie and the old bill went to nick him so he had it on his toes and almost got away but for some c*** of a steward to trip him up with a corner flag.
Last I heard he had gone to live in Australia but that was years ago.
Nice fella and always well turned out him and his little lot.

Monks Hills Lads, Always had a hardcore of Palace fans.

I'm sure that was the game.... I remember leaving the Botham End and yes I think the train travelers (which I was on) and coaches went in different directions. We passed a grave yard where Stoke fans were hiding and waiting for us (sounds so funny now!!!). There were no police around and I had no wish to ruin my planned night out back in London so it was a head down and run to the station whilst a few brave souls decided to engage!!!! It was 30+ years ago but that's what my memory remembers!!!

that last game of season v newcastle was correct, only i went to help elsie with the geordie, kev ran, i ended up trading blows with the geordie and we both got knicked, taken to norbury police station, cell door opens, and im put in the cell with 3 older geordies including the one i was scuffling with! lucky my one wasnt the main man, he said to the other two thats him! and the leader of the gang said f*** me, hes only a kid, and we chatted like old friends about the days out we had, funny! think elsie got into aus cos he wasnt a bad player himself and there standard wasnt up to much 30 yrs ago!

Just seen this, im glad you can confirm it was Newcastle at home last game of 81/82 season.
My memory aint what it was.
What an end to a depressing season.
Little did we all know it was gonna get worse, what with mullery, crowds down to 5 grand at home and fighting relegation for the next 3 seasons to Divison 3.
Is elsie still in oz?
