Nobody really knows how much the Dartford Toll was sold for. Best guestimates are anything between £1-£15b but this would include our canals and waterways within these figures.
Approx' 150-170,000 vehicles a day use the toll so it would make around £3.5m a week, roughly £180m a year. The Government said that the toll made a deficit on average of £40m a year, the reason it was sold to the French, also has been said, reneging on a printed document to make the toll free after the bridge had been paid for.
I honestly don't know how this toll can lose that much money when there's a constant stream of immediate money.
It's tens of millions of pounds once again going out of the UK. Governments will privatise everything until there's nothing left.

The reason the toll was changed to the scheme it has now is down to cost saving. It costs money to collect the cash at the toll, to arrange for the collection of the cash and then to bank the cash. Also cost locals their jobs.
In protest i'll not fish in Essex (or i'll use the Blackwall Tunnel) and didn't shop as I have done every Christmas for years at Thurrock.

Nothing short of disgraceful but not surprising.

I refuse to believe there are that many people out there that can't spell. Too f**king lazy, that's what I think.

I've never had a problem at Dartford tbh but last year I received a letter (inc a pic) of me 'parked(?)' the wrong side of a red light at around 6am in London (who does that!).
The fact that I'd moved forward to let an ambulance go by was irrelevant because as they say, the camera never lies cough cough. I asked for the CCTV footage and was told that they couldn't send it to me (how strange in a world of tech?) but I'm more than welcome to view it if I went along to their offices. Being self-employed it was pointless fighting it as it would have cost me more money so I paid the 60quid.
The moral of the story is they are cunds and will get away with anything if they can. You have proof on your side and will be fine. But that doesn't take into account the inconvenience.

This would piss me right off, especially since you moved for an ambulance. No good deed goes unpunished as they say.

Dirty Pigs!!!! I appreciate yours is not a parking ticket but the appeal process is similar - you may find some useful tips in the article above. I.e. ...the contravention did not occur.

What a massive over-reaction! No electronic system is perfect (although my family and myself use the crossing frequently, without problems) and, as there is evidence of payment, the fine will be cancelled on appeal. You'd be living a charmed life if this was the worst thing that ever happened to you.

I started a thread about this month's ago and I am still adamant they only went to this system to catch people out and fine them.

Interesting, because im sure they are legally obliged to send a copy of any CCTV with you in it, normally at a small cost.

w***ers.

Lifted this from another source:

My friend borrowed my car and paid the toll . I returned from holiday to find a Penalty notice for £150 if I didn't settle by the next day, so while I found out what happened I paid the charge. I now have a receipt showing the original was paid , but my friend mistyped the 0 for a Zero on the registration . Dart Charge say its Company policy not to refund in this instance even though they told me they can see from their records it was a mistake! This is absurd and money pinching - its just not fair and reasonable - what about the elderly and infirm who can easily get this wrong - not to mention foreign visitors where there is not guidance at the crossing at all !

I thought you had to set up an account now that automatically tops up by £10 when you go below £10? I just did that and assumed no more problems and it was cheaper. Haven't been through it in a few weeks, has this changed? Or does the system simply not work?

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.
