All this talk reminds me of the quote attributed to marcus aurelius, the roman emperor

"Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones."
-- Marcus Aurelius

While you are burning in the fiery pits of hell for all eternity you can at least seek some comfort in the thought that you tried to live a noble life.

Man is the most insane species. He worships an invisible God and destroys a visible Nature. Unaware that this Nature he’s destroying is this God he’s worshipping.

Quote ParchmoreEagle at 07 Feb 2015 1.16am

Are you good enough to get to Heaven?: [Link]

Yes, because good and evil are subjectively determined. For example, how good is God, when in the old Testament he is directly responsible for at least 2,821,364 deaths, including children.

I don't think I'm good, but I'm better than a prolific serial killer, who doesn't differentiate between guilty and innocent (children of Egypt).

Quote ParchmoreEagle at 07 Feb 2015 1.16am

Is hell real?: [Link]

No, it violates Gods own laws of thermodynamics.

The truth: [Link]

Bollocks

You're a c**t - You give Christians a bad name, seeking power through fear. Even if your god existed, I wouldn't worship it.

Edited by jamiemartin721 (08 Feb 2015 11.05pm)

Well you're def going to the fiery furnace as you called parch a clat (or a chot)and questioned god's goodness. But yeah, i might be there too as i wonder about the god of the old testament and the killing of babies. Most people condemn herod for doing the same thing in the new testament. I can only think that he matured and became more compassionate as he grew older and that is why the message of the new testament is more about peace and forgiveness rather than retribution and murder, as the old one was. So maybe there's hope for all of us.

I was only making a comparison between God's behaviour in the old testament and the new one. Anyway I dunno who invented aids, maybe scientists under the orders of high ranking government officials if you believe the conspiracy theorists. But I'm not sure what or who to believe.

Fair enough, wasn't trying to patronise.

You're welcome

But in the timescale any supposed deity exists in, the difference between the old and new testaments is negligible. "Growing older" in the context of a god would seem to be a strange concept.

it's weird alright and it's funny how he mellowed out so much. Maybe it's just one big fabrication.

Dunno. This was pretty mean for a bloke who's mellowed.
