Liked them both at the time but Oasis had the shortest shelflife. A classic Oasis tune now fills me with as much joy as a last of the summer wine box set. Blur I could still enjoy but would only be very very occasionally. Agree with Jamie on Lush (I have a stack of Echobelly too but always end up only listening to the same 3/4 tracks) and could add another dozen bands of the same era that have matured much better. Verdi vs Puccini ?

The answer is Pulp or the Auteurs (Or Suede with Bernard Butler, who just about smashed everything Oasis and Blur did in one album). I prefer Lush (or Echobelly) to either Blur or Oasis. Both are massively over rated on the basis of popularity - They're bands indicative of more talented musicians of their time, who never grew tired of stealing a ride on the bandwagon.

I like Blur but it's Oasis by a million miles. Also, without meaning to take the debate in a different direction, I've never agreed with the whole 'Oasis ripped off The Beatles' argument which I found to be a lazy accusation.
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... |

There were only really lyrical nods to The Beatles. Although musically T Rex and others were ripped right off.

Possibly but I don't think there are many bands these days that don't sound like at least one other band that have come before them. I just thought it was a bit rich for everybody to accuse them of ripping off the Beatles when supposed groundbreakers Radiohead (who I love) basically used the music for Sexy Sadie and The Air That I Breathe for Karma Police and Creep.

I'm an oasis fan so slightly bias.. Although my first ever 7 inch vinal bought was blurs 'there's no other way'. Edited by ricky s (25 Aug 2015 6.29pm)
