Never been a fan of his as too young; however his influence on British and world music was immense. If only I didn't have to listen to that simpering c*** Nicky Campbell all morning droning on about how he met him here and there. RIP Ziggy What an odd post. You don’t have to listen to Nicky Campbell, if you don’t like his show, there are dozens of other stations to listen to. I listened to Nicky when taking the kids to school this morning and you could feel his sense of personal loss (which many of us - regardless of if we ever met DB or not) are this morning feeling. No, I get what Lyons550 was meaning. I didn't like Bowie in my youth because he had turned a bit shi'te, it wasn't until I was in my late 20s that I started listening to early Bowie and realised that before 1982 he produced some real gems.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

A sad loss, RIP

Another chunk of my youth gone..... meeting up in the Prompt Corner Café then up to the Three Tuns for the live music sessions. RIP DB - a great performer and a lasting legacy to music history.

This is a real shame, bit young to have been able to appreciate him in his prime but have always loved listening to his early stuff.

Now that someone I care about has died I will take the chance to say this: one of the most contemptable, disgusting facets of this website is the pathetic pleasure some of you seem to derive from creating posts with celebrity names as their titles and the word "dead" in the text portion. It seems that you can't get the post out quickly enough, such is your desire for a small amount of recognition at a time of others' pain and misfortune. This time we even had two posts out at the same time and another five minutes later- you couldn't even wait long enough to check if there was a duplicate thread. It's an insensitive thing to do and not a pleasant way to find out someone you care about has died. I'm not saying it can't be talked about here but jumping on your laptop the instant you find out is NOT the way to do it. Major Tom signing off. Edited by Jamesrichards8 (11 Jan 2016 7.26am)
BUT James your post is way off the mark. The HOL tradition of posting DEAD is no more disrespectful than the BBC tradition of putting BREAKING. I doubt anyone is clamouring for recognition - just passing on the sad news. Absolute Radio playing all Bowie songs this morningy RIP you wonderful wonderful man.
This is a HOL tradition for announcing the dead and is no way disrespectful or intended to be. I'll put my tribute to David separately.

David Jones of Brixton, otherwise known to the world as David Bowie (and no one was sure how to pronounce it... LOL). So many beautiful songs, it's hard to pick one, but I'll go with "Wild Is The Wind" as it seems particularly poignant and sad, as that is how I feel today about his loss. RIP to one of our greatest artistes of all time.

As I said clearly a musical legend whose influences affected soo many people; just not my bag. Regarding Nicky C...well...lets not go there! Mind you Rachel Burden isn't much better!
