Parliament voted by an overwhelming majority to ask the British people the question. The Government who proposed that legislation then promised, with no small print, that the decision would be implemented. Then in 2017 we had a general election in which the two parties who garnered well over 80% of the vote both pledged to honour the Brexit vote. We have been assured, time and time again. If we are still in the EU come April 1st, we have been betrayed.

We leave - it's the law, an act of parliament. The only thing that can change that is another act of parliamnt.

The time between delivery and leaving was set within Article 50 itself. Edited by becky (13 Jan 2019 12.25pm)

That Act of Parliament also received (as does every AoP) Royal Assent before it became Law. It would be interesting to see what happens if Her Majesty (as she has the right so to do)refused the Royal Assent to any further legislation to 'undo' the result of the referendum. the last monarch who refused was of course King Charles - and we all know what happened to him!
