I came across the article below on CNN. I thought it provided a new perspective and one you wouldn't read in the Mail or Express. It may help to explain why for many the fight has to go on:-

I'm sorry, but when was the last time you was on a London bus? The upper deck on a London bus has rarely any white people on it, unless it's a night bus. And then it's still a mix of races.

So your conclusion is that this story isn't true and just published by CNN to spread lies?

I found the author's Twitter page. Why don't you ask her yourself and also give her your opinion of her piece?

I don't have twitter, nor do I want it. But you seem to think that it is conclusive evidence of truth? CNN reported it. It must be true. I read it in the Sun*, it must be true. It was on twitter, it must be true. Jeez! As I pointed out earlier, your researching is flawed.

So this woman is going on about division and post this and the writes an article about people saying immigrants should go home.
Looks like double double standards to me.

So one person on a bus allegedly makes a racist comment so that applies to the rest of us. I don't call all Remainers idiots and they would be right to call me out if I did.

I'm surprised she didn't use the line "My 8yo child asked me mummy why are leavers so racist and horrid"

Government unveils new immigration policy.

[Link]

The devil is in the detail but at first glance it looks a sensible policy. The government has set a minimum salary threshold to stop companies exploiting cheap foreign labour they have also banned workers from access to income related benefits to prevent employers using taxpayers money to subsidise jobs.

They cannot claim benefits for 5 years and must pay £400 pa for the NHS.

As long as care workers and the NHS are exempt which it appears they are this all seems well and good.

The key thing for me though is flexibility if the policy is not working in certain areas the government needs to be able to amend it quickly and without an act of Parliament it's not clear how that will happen yet.

Her opinion piece is about the division in our society. It isn't about her personal experience on a bus. That's just background. It's neither true or untrue. It's an opinion and a reasoning on why people with her opinion believe that continuing to fight is important. CNN didn't "report" it. They published it.

I gave you her Twitter connection so you could ask her questions directly.

It has nothing to do with what happened on the bus. For me that clearly was included as a personal example of the problem she sees resulting from Brexit.

She didn't suggest that everyone who voted to leave is a racist did she? She only suggested that Brexit has taken the cork out of the bottle and released the previously restrained racism that was always there in some people. A view that I share and have expressed here before.

She went on to give an opinion about why she believes it necessary to go on challenging these attitudes.

There is no need for anyone to feel offended. What she said is an opinion from a particular perspective, informed by personal experience and a valuable contribution to an important subject.

I’m all for a points system, but this is going to get amended within 6 months once low skilled worker reliant businesses start folding.

The end game is laudable but it needs to be a phased process

The devil will indeed be in the detail, which will not become clear for a while. When I heard the headline proposals last night my first impression was much of it made sense.

However, I am not so sure that care workers have been exempted and, if not, this will become a major issue.

Nor, it seems, has tourism.

If service levels decrease in the tourism sector as a consequence then the impact will all be economic. Businesses will fail and people will be unhappy but nobody will die. We can all make our own beds in hotels, self serve in restaurants, and survive.

Not so the care sector. Starve that of support staff and we will have a genuine crisis on our hands.

It's all very well wanting to see these jobs taken up by local people, or automated, but the impracticality of actually doing so, especially in the short term, is obvious. Even if the wage levels in the care sector are dramatically improved the take up is not going to be sufficient. As improving those wage levels depends entirely on government intervention that ball rests in their hands. Without funding it won't happen.

So I agree that flexibility is the key to success and that this needs to be shown quickly to reassure some vulnerable people. The statements from the government so far seem pretty rigid and ideological rather than practical.
