Purely in the interests of balance, I typically very much enjoy your input, JM, and find you to be an excellent and welcome contributor. Generally intelligent, knowledgeable, considered and funny. (Especially the disposed-of mutilated prostitutes' bodies bits.) I don't imagine this is a unique view.

I study as a hobby. So I tend to write a lot of essays and do a lot of presentations for work - So its not intentional, I just am used to writing in a style that is authorative (this is pretty much essential for my job, which generally involves a lot of justifying why a particular approach will be used, and why existing or other approaches will fail).

Mostly I get paid to think about how to do things, and then do them.

I said "sometimes he gets my goat".....

Mostly I agree with you about Jamie's input.... often he amuses and amazes at the same time.

Certainly he is not afraid to put forward an opinion!

My secret, is I actually like you all. I find 'counter views' more interesting than similar views, as I find it tests me more, and sometimes I'll play devils advocate, because it sharpens ability to be critical, which traditionally was a weak area of my essay writing.

But thanks, in part, to the right wingers of HOL, I'm hitting the 93-97% on essays.

Jamie is the only one here with a higher post count than me (with me having had a five and a half year head start) and, I have to say, quite a few of his contributions have been almost as good as mine.

He delights and infuriates in equal measure, has his own refreshingly unique approach to orthography and is only infrequently a bender.

A textbook HOL poster, in fact, and an above average one at that.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

..there has to be some you dislike, in order to understand and comprehend liking on this site you have to taste the awfulness of some posters, you surely must know posters that you love to dislike.

I can't think of any. I quite like matt_himself, even though I barely ever agree with him and occasionally really get into it with him. Hoof, stirlingsays, Cucking et al I usually vote for them as poster of the year, in any given year. They can frustrate me and challenge me to think differently, and that I absolutely love.

The only people I can think of that I've really disliked have usually ended up getting themselves banned (or usually are returning banned posters), and people who post very stupid things in transfer talk.

I agree with jamie.... it is good to lock horns with left wingers to sharpen the mind and temper ones own extreme views on occasions.

On the 'dark side' on here we have Seth, Kermy, Legal, Gusset that I enjoy debating with as it rarely gets out of hand and we can exchange views with hopefully a bit of banter and mutual respect.

I hate the ones that make it personal and get abusive or "trot" out the same arguments/insults (Bert the Head).

I would love Johnny Eagles to come back, but Hrolf is shaping up nicely as the voice of reason.

I second that. I quite like Hrolf and Part Time James has become one of my all time favourite posters.

If JM doesn't immediately change the will he obviously hasn't yet bothered with, to insist his headstone shall bear this sentiment, this will be another worryingly increasingly frequent example of his bendering.

Fair brought a tear to my eye.

at least people know who they are now and they are being targeted with reprisals. Still not enough though. They should be hurled down the stairs a few times themselves
