It is a residential area of 2 storey houses, so to erect a 5+ storey stand in the middle of it, everyone locally is going to see it. It is exactly the job of planners to decide what they would or would not allow - aesthetics are a consideration. If it was located in central London next to the Shard or the Gherkin, it would not be an issue, similarly if it was on a retail park like Derby or Reading's grounds it could entirely clad in sheet metal, but it is in a residential suburb amongst Victorian/Edwardian houses, so the exterior look is relevant

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave Just got back from the exhibition/consultation There weren't all the architects plans (which I though there might be), just a couple of new drawings we hadn't seen before plus the vast scale model, which has been updated in a few ways. I am going to have my dinner now, but will update a bit later when I've uploaded the pics.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave Some new photos from the local residents exhibition/consultation which I attended tonight. Main changes are that they are now showing the block of four houses in Wooderson Close removed, there may also be a 5th house removed (the one backing onto Holmesdale Road nearest the fancy gates) to create a better entranceway Also the scale model has also been amended to now show that there will not be seating in the open corner next to the Holmesdale Fanatics.
